View Full Version : The absolute, 100% most aggravating thing EVER...

...is when you get a CTD at the very end of an AI turn in which you fought four or five major battles against the AI, incluidng some where you managed to wipe them out and take a city :furious3:
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest, it was either that or go on some kind of killing spree :rifle:

Hmmm, I'd say what's more aggravating is not being able to get past the first turn in a campaign, or even play a custom battle due to a CTD every time you try.

I wouldn't be so sure. At least you don't waste countless hours on trying to fix it.:sweatdrop:

Actually, I did...

Don`t you save between battles?

Obviously not.. Although, that would be the solution to the problem
I save all the time....although it has not been necessary yet.

Is it possible to do that during the AI turn? I never knew that! :wall:

You can save before a battle...

To minimize stuff like that from happening I save each and every turn...
I don't regret doing it when the game CDT's at the end of the turn :2thumbsup:

I've always saved regularly but I never, ever realised you could do it during the AI's turn. Well, you learn something new every day - just goes to show it pays to rant every now and then! :2thumbsup:

Wow.. How can you play the game saving each turn?! I save everytime I leave, and that's just about it.

Well been doing it ever since my first ever CDT, which obviously wasn't with Rome.
Sometimes I even manage to save a few times a turn, in the later stages of the game
I find it the best way to make sure I won't be unpleasantly surprised ;)

Saving is wise. What's better, pressing Ctrl + S and waiting a maximum five seconds, or doing an entire turn (possibly hours) and then having a CTD and having to do it all over again.

trying to mod a game get so close and see your pc crash without you having made a backup of your progress....made me cry

Exactly.

Even when doing the simplest of modding I always have a fresh version of the to be modded part, same concept as saving really.

i usually have that to...but i mean a reall crash in which you have to reinstall your pc...

I do that the first turns as well. :dizzy2:
Press Ctr+S over and over again. In the case of a CTD, I won`t loose anything.

No, actually, the most aggravating thing EVER would be the fact that you decide to fight a battle yourself, and you march your army up a hill for 5 minutes, getting them into position, and then the AI decides it doesn't want to fight and withdraws all its units.

True, but that happens so many times you just get used to it ~;)

The worst thing I've experienced when a Sughidian Rebels army spawns on a top of a mountain on VH.. They are invinsible. Last time, they killed around 2 of my armies..

Why not just leave them alone?

The most aggravating thing to me is that when the AI's units rout, they run away from me at high speed--routing men on foot generally can outrace my cavalry. But when my units rout, they head directly into the AI's troops, even if I'm right at the edge of the map. :furious3:

Or bribe them, get's you a nice army too.

...Grouped Archers, Impetuous Charging Cavalry near spear infantry/phalanxes (Grouped = ClickityClickcliiickcliiiiiick!!!!!!!!!), 'Celebrating' Units that seem to find their wine skins on the battle field and ignore nearby enemy units, Routing Enemy Heavy Cavalry General faster than Light Cavalry (Triple Speed Timer! oh...*sigh*), Troops inablility to go up Guard towers in seiges or simply going the wrong way with walls involved :inquisitive: , Settlement pathing for troop movement, Machine Gun seige Towers, Endless Naval Battles (No matter what the numbers on occasion ), Enemy assassin actualy successful and taking out your favourite general, Having to tediously go through 'fire at will' at beginning of every battle, General getting jumped in battle while you're concentrating on some exciting part of the battle field even though he was safe 30 seconds ago..., watching your small settlement destined population adding peasant army of 1200+ get annihilated just before its destination by an enemy army that pops out of nowhere...after years of movement of course..., Chariots aka Egypt, Lag in campaign map still bad...even with minimum +++ specs as specified in game and heaps more..., Forgetting to do something before the end of a turn and haven't quick saved in quite some time...
Think that covers it : )
Oh, and about modding ... even with backed up files etc (but various and scattered over the months :S )... and spending too many hours in forums then forgetting what I've learned three months later, and stuck with CTD and facing reinstalls which isn't the games fault (well sorta) but becoming very complex to me... being the irrational, and a bit inexperienced mod junky that I am!
:wall:
Wow! I do feel better...

LOL, these annoyances make me wonder why I still play the game. :dizzy2: The most aggravating thing for me though is spending 50 to 100 plus hours on a campaign and then losing intrest due to repetitive battles and sieges and the steamroller effect.
That and also: population control, chasing horse archers with no battle time limit, and not having enough time to sally with battle time limit on.
