View Full Version : Any Famous People in RTW?
I remember there were lots of notables in MTW (Richard the Lionhearted, William Wallace, El Cid, etc.), but I can't find anyone in RTW. Like Gaius Marius, Sulla, Pompey Magnus, Scipio Africanus, Perseus. Do they exist? Are they hidden in the late years of the game?

Yes and no.
In the historical battles, people such as Caesar, Hannibal, Pyrrhus of Eprius, etc. exist and command armies.
However, in the actual campaign these people do not come along, with one exception: Marius's reforms are incorporated in the game by unlocking a second military tech tree for the Roman factions.

Actually, it's possible to have characters named after these historical "notables" as you call them. They may not exist at the time they actually did, but names such as "Gaius Julius" and "Hannibal Barca" are in the names file and can come up at any time in the game.

you have a few. when the game start most faction leaders and some members are famous persons. you can run into julius ceasar and hannibal but just by name. they wont have special traits like the famous persons in MTW (jean dárc, henry the lion etc) and also they wont be in the right time likely either
I'm pretty sure Publius Scipio Africanus Major, who you mentioned, is scripted to be born and mature in the Scpii family.

I don't think any of the characters are scripted. Names are almost entirely randomly generated.

In my Rome: Total Realism campaign, Pyrrhus of Eprius is on the coast of Italy with his stack trying to "rule the penninsula". Hannibal and Hasdrubal are both in the Carthaginian campaigns.

Well, you get historical persons like Archimedes as ancilliaries, but not as generals.

Well at certain dates, if you'd build a certain unit that unit would be named like a historical person, he would also benefit from that person's vices and virtues which the said ''hero'' had in real life.
However, if you build lot's of units all the time, these people might not come to your attention - you don't get a special message that say Jean d'arc was born. Other more noteable units will come to your attention solely because of their great starting traits.
I mean, a 5 star peasant does stand out from the crowd ;)

Like Craterus said, character names are selected randomly from a list, so there is a very good chance that the Scipii will get a general called Publius. This is not scripted and the general may or may not develop traits to resemble his famous namesake.

Nefarious made list containting all M:TW and VI heroes, which you can obtain by e-mailling him. You can find his adress in Frogbeastegg's Beginner's Guide for M:TW. A more informative hero guide has been made by Ky Kiske, but it does not contain heroes from the VI campaign. You can find Ky Kiske's guide here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=30539).

I had a Gaius Jillius with high ratings that I developed into my faction leader. I had already conquered Gaul, but I sent him to conquer Egypt. Unfortunately he never met up with Cleopatra and did not produce any heirs.

Welcome Roman Pleb!:balloon2:
You should have built him up to a 10 star general! He would be the greatest!:2thumbsup:

Completely random. Perseus is only a myth as well. In EB the game starts with historical characters though, complete with their biographies. Famous names such as Antigonos, Antiochus, Pyrrhus and even Iphikrates can be found, (Iphikrates is a rebel!) and the characters even have their biographies as a trait.
