Discuss! :tongueg:

Seems there's quite an accumulation of players here. Myself I loved number 1, was kept too busy with exams to really play number 2 much, and had even more exams when Shadow Magic appeared. :cough: I think I managed to finish just 3 scenarios in that one, thanks to university, and it took months to do that. The first one I loaded up many times over; absolutely loved it. I'd never played anything like it before, and not really since. I only tried the demo on the off-chance, and then spent a few weeks waiting for the release.

I think the main word which comes to mind with this series is 'nice'. Nice graphics (for then; even now the latter two are nicely quaint), nice setting, nice music, nice gameplay, nice background and story, nice scenarios.

What happened to the series? I haven't heard anything about it since Shadow Magic.

Yay for dire penguins!

Don't know what's happening with it. I played AoE II right through to the end, and found it reasonably enjoyable. Yes, the graphics are cute and magic system is good, but the game as a whole is a little predictable and a bit lacking in challenge and excitement. Still good for a mindless few hours of empire expansion though.

I enjoyed it enough to go out and buy AoE Shadow Magic, but I only got a few scenarios into that one when I upgraded my PC and didn't bother reinstalling it for quite a while. And when I finally did reinstall and took up where I left off, I suddenly found I was sick of it. There's this huge level you hit fairly on in the game, with dozens of cities and endless numbers of enemies coming at you all the time, it was such a slog to make progress that in the end I just couldn't face any more.

Don't know if they're working on a sequel, but they probably are, and my guess is it will be full 3D.

Must say I'm finding the HoMM 5 demo better than AoE at this stage, but perhaps that's just because of the novelty factor.

Yeah, great games. Ive played AoW 1 a lot and recently installed AoW II again, but ive never really gotten into that one. I thought II was slightly better balanced, gameplay wise.

Ive also played Disciples II and HOMM III/IV, but I think AoW was the best. I dont think there will be AoW III though. On the Triumph website they are hiring people for a ground breaking next gen game  (or AoW III will have flashy 3D graphics and an interface suited for an Xbox 360 controller).
