Hello every today I bought the pc gamer mag and guess what it made me worried!

On page 20-22 it mentions "politians/MPs" (not the millarty police stupid) trying to take away or fun! what is this fun you may ask? VIOLENCE!!!

ok i agree with them about some times unapproite things happen in games eg: Bully there thinking about banning outright some how i agree with them... my friends how played said it was: CRAP

There thinking about censoring words... why's that? the gaming industry already has a good censoring system that works.

also some game with "cartoon violence" witch have 18+ or adults only should be raised!

also people are trying to ban san andreas becuase of the "hotcoffe" mod, this mod readds the sex option in san andreas when it was removed? it's mod for god sake you add or remove when ever you like!

people in the US aren't safe eheiter...infact their banning it outright

and also the MP'S and Politians are trying to asstioate a virus with gaming! they give a thumbs for this idea...i put a finger up to this crap!

so basicly their saying were all stupid and we cant make are own choices i find this a offence!!!

Absolutely Abokasee, you make some very good and disturbing points here. Of course, I, as a player of computer games, am biased, but these politicians really need to worry about more pressing issues rather than gaming.

As for the violence, it is really up to the parents to monitor their children’s' gaming habits. My parents do. They really don’t like me playing computer games at all, but they strictly forbade me from playing the Grand Theft Auto series after seeing the media hype about San Andreas (I had Vice City myself, but my parents really didn't see a difference ). My mom still gets uneasy when she sees me playing Battlefield 2. And I am 17 years old, turning 18 in 2 1/2 months. Still, I accept, and to a certain degree, agree with my parents’ limitations; after all, I am living in their house, eating their food, and using their money to buy my games. Besides, I know that I would myself get uneasy if I had kids playing certain games on the market. But once one reaches their teen years, they should definitely know what is right and wrong, and should have more sense than to idiotically mimic what they see on TV or play on their video games. It’s funny, there are all these studies showing how violent video games or TV shows are linked to aggression in kids, but there are also studies which show that kids who are actually monitored by their parents as well as those who play or watch with their parents are normal. Seems to me that the more important variable is parental involvement…

Anyway, great thread once again, Abokasee. :2thumbsup:

Good point. If you wait until your kids are in their teen years to worry about this stuff you're too late.

Yeah, I agree. Put a finger to this crap. If you're too responsible to reign in your kids, you deserve to raise kids who's brains are filled with smut and violence. This is one of the few things I know H Clinton cares about, but it's not like the GOP can always be trusted with this kinda stuff either. It's ridiculous.

Hilary Clinton is the devil. Censuring what I play becuase there's studies that show all media outlets effect kids and singling out video games. When will these a@#holes start worrying about real problems instead of trying to create one and fix it. I hope there's some type of protest outside of Hilary Clintons Mansion for this BS.

Parental responsibility and paying attention to whatever your kids are doing sound good, you'll get no argument there from me or any sane person.

Still, kids are creative in hiding stuff from their parents. And while not all parents are doing what they should to prevent their kids from viewing violence or sexual material, does that mean the govment can sit idly by and wash her hands in innocense?

There are already age ratings for video games. I say enforce them by making it punishable for a salesman to knowingly sell stuff (wether it be porn, or violent videogames) to people who are not old enough.
If parents decide that their kid is old and wise enough to handle a particular game (I recognise that age rating in itself is imperfect), they can buy it for their kids should they ask for it. That way, the responsibility still lies with the parents.

Banning certain games alltogether or censuring explicit language is just stupid.

Correct - parents are responsible for their children until the time they leave the house.

You should seen the look on my teenage son when we did the first room search for things he should not have. Rather upset with us - but mostly because we found things he did not want found.

Best thing is to have a trust relationship with your kids, followed up with a demonstration of responsiblity and caring. Not an abuse of their privacy, but a monitoring of their activities. The government's involvment with child rearing should only occur once the parent demonstrates that they are unable to maintain control of their household.

Until then I prefer the government to only be able to set minimum standards - ie yes indeed its wrong to expose children to sexual explicit material.

I agree completely

Banning certain games alltogether or censuring explicit language is just stupid.

It also actually drives up the demand for the games.

And you base your trust relationship by conducting room searches? Damn, Im glad your not my dad when I was a teen - I mean every sane boy has a magazine under his bed and something that goes "splat" to play on (gameboy, pc, playstation).

ps. this is not to suggest your parenting is bad, I have no info other than what you just said - I just think you should
"LEAVE THEM KIDS ALONE!"

Well when the teen began to act strangly - we suspected drugs, and guess what we found? Long story - not needed in this discussion - especially now that maybe he has found a direction in life to go (at 21 years of age)

Now my other son who just turned 13, I have yet to have to decide to search his room because of his actions. However I do have to remind him to clean his room. :laugh4:

Only to a point. Responsible parenting requires the parent to be involved with their children - wether their behavior is good or not.

Violence in video games does make people more prone to violence in real life and all games should be regulated. I would never have gone out in the street dressed as a No Dachi and chopped up those kids if it werent for Shogun: Total War, nor would I have dressed like a Geisha and tried to choke the guy at Carls Jr. I want my life back, please stop these games now!

Oh, and the public schools (most homeschooling parents)...and the liberal media...and...

The list goes on.

Here's a thought, bring game censorship in line with films and videos and make it illegal for games to be sold to someone too young to play them. Problem solved. That way the violent games would be kept from 12 year olds and if they did get hold of them someone could be locked up.

Abokasee - everyone knows that violent video games in US are at a fork in the road. They're either going to get banned or not get banned. Everyone has known this for a while since everyone's favourite egotist Jack Thompson arrived on the scene.

I get to that Quote in a Minute.

this is a Crock of Trash, plain and Simple. I am 14 years old. I played Grand Theif Auto:Vice City, which is a Rated M game, when I was 12 years old in 6 th grade, with the other 12 year old boys who did aslo. We talked about Sex and other things, but, isn't that what Pubclity is all about?

I think A Saleman/SaleWoman should not Sale a Game like GTA to a 10 year old kid, but to me

a Game is a Game. I got the Mental State of Mind of, GTA is a game where you can kill ppl,steal,w/e
without being punished SERVELY.. I know not to shoot people unless it is Self Defense and my life is in Danger, I know not to steal Cars or Rape Girls, I know not to have Sex till I marry unless I want a baby and a STD or both.

if I am under alot of pressure/stress, I will play RTW,Huge Units, cuz I like alot of Soliders and Dead Bodies and Tatcis.or blow ppl away on GTA.

but again, giving a 8,or even a 10 year old kid a GTA game, they may think "it not cool" when you hand it to them, but when they start playing, they may it "lets go on a bridge and shoot cars with sniper rilfes below and kill 8 ppl"

Kids,13-16 years old should be reminded not to do those things when playing a game like GTA. 17+,I don't really care. a Sex Game, though, I don't need them

I can go to google, type in PORN, and boom

Hilary Clinton is the devil.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ahem... I believe parents should be responsible for what their kids do, see, or play at a young age (up to about 13). Often times parents just drop their kids in front of the magic eletric baby-sitters such as videogames, the TV, compouter, etc., and of course like the case we have here try to cover their own blatant failure as parents by blaming what they should not.
