Prof. Spatula's Skins & Sprites pack? and other Q's...

Hi guys,
Back again after a break from RTW, and yet again stuck : (

I have read a thread just before about RTG mod that mentioned Professor Spatula's 'Skins and Sprites pack'. I can't find it as a seperate download anywhere. The reason I am really after this is that from the screen shot of the alternate greek spartans ( poly something Spartans model by CA) I am wondering if Prof. Spatula generated the sprites for them too. As I use the model but don't have the sprites so when zoomed out of unit I get the vanilla GC Spartan sprites. And, because they wear those red cloaks it really stands out and ruins the overall look of them. Call me picky but they are a very cool looking unit and the old sprites just ruin it for me : (

So, if someone could direct me to where to download these sprites I would greatly appreciate it, and thanks.

I dl'd the old one linked in forums from total war centre, found link in read me file ) and having a problem loading the original game. I put the mods in the MODS folder but it seems the only mod that will work is ' RTW Expansion Mod' (Nice little mod btw : ) )I got from Total War Centre.com

MM3 or Mundus Magnus ver 3 wont work and I was really looking forward to playing that awesome map.

Anyway, the original game I had with some minor modifications to do with just adding some units I found around the forums doesn't load anymore....lol?

It crashes back to desktop straight after advertisement for CA etc upon loading. (The first screen)

The problem facing me is that the files are HUGE! It would take me hours (or days! Noooo!) to go through them. Does anyone have vanilla files of above ? Or could someone please direct me as to where to find them?

A few Q's about JGSME :

1. The proper location for JGSME exe is in rometotalwar folder..... right?

2. Upon putting the mods in the MODS folder, as per read me, it duplicated the files in Rome Total War directory. This is right.... right? heh..

3. Could someone who does modding maybe put a screeny of the directory structure in this thread as a reference tool for others that are not as modding talented? I know there are screen shots with the prog but I would greatly appreciate seeing a screeny from a person who has successfully used it with the mods folders (self) duplicated. As related to using it for RTW.

So, in summary, and thankyou in advance to any help (believe me I have tried to work it out myself ! being shattered that the original game, 1.5 RTW, wont load anymore, read heaps of forums, oh and I made so many back ups I lost count and dont know whats what anymore (( But made a new back up directory mirroring the game... sigh* )) so if I can't find help it's reinstall time..... again... but please note that for some strange reason one mod will work and no other RTW versions...I don't get it, as JGSME modifies and unmodifies and shouldn't touch the original files.... right? heh...

Uhm... right back to the summary sorry..

1. Prof. Spatula's skins and Sprites Pack. Awesome work by the look of the screenies in the RTG thread, and would really appreciate direction to a link to download it.

2. Need a link/code pasted in post for vanilla 1.5 descr_names.txt and names.txt files please.

3. A screeny so I could verify the correct directory structure of Activision>Rometotalwar>Data etc files & JGSME exe would show me that I have done it right or wrong.

So that's it! Sorry if the post is a bit long but I wanted to make sure I covered everything. Believe me I have tried to work it out myself but have over 10 gig of backups / mods and files everywhere outside my main RTW game directory : S This is my last resort before the demoralising reinstall..

P.S. Is there a thread with all the directory structures for RTW data file? Like a map?

Hello, glad you like my work. I don't have a separate download for the skins and sprites, it was just a collection of stuff I thought I'd give to Seasoned Alcoholic to use in his mod.

However, just for you (and anyone else interested), here's the sprites for the alternative Spartan model that CA provided. http://disko.co.uk/files/ps_spartan_sprites.zip

The files need to be unzipped into your: Main RTW folder\data\sprites folder.

Then you need to edit the descr_model_battle.txt file and update the Spartan sprite entry to point to the new sprite file.

I've just created a batch of sprites for around 50 units, only tested the Barbarian Cavalry Mercenaries and they seem fine. Did your spartan sprites spread across 5 seperate .TGA files? I've got all the overarm sprites in there as well, probably because of SigniferOne's animations pack as the default skeleton. Also converted them to .DDS using that tool I was on about.

Do you want me to compress this sprite batch and send it your way PS, I could do with some feedback on them, but especially from yourself because they're your unit reskins ~D

Welcome back, SomeNick. I use JGSME all the time with no problems - if you're having trouble with map mods it may be because the mod doesn't include its own map.rwm file and therefore your old one is still around. JGSME.exe should be in Rome - Total War folder (same folder as data) - it should create a folder in same place called MODS, below that should be a folder with the name of the mod, below that should be the mod data folder.

Thanks Prof. Spatula ! :bow: I've been after those sprites for a loooong time, and unfortunately not able to work out how to generate them myself.

Thanks to you all for pointers with regard to JGSME too. Seems I missed that tutorial somehow thanks again Monkwarrior.


Thanks Epistolary Richard, you have come to my rescue a lot in the past and tried to help.
I will look again at the file structure and make sure it's correct.

Unfortunately for my originaly modded RTW 1.5, seems like it might be reinstall time : (. I'll just have to be more vigilant in keeping a better organised directory of files and so.... here I go again lol! But hopefully for the final time.

So, if it's damage control I'm gonna muck around with the directories and see what I can salvage and what I can experiment with, before the reinstall.

When I get it all working I'll put a screeny here for others that are in the same boat as me. Unless I totaly suck at it and everyone is an expert !
