If you've played RTW long enough, you've probably "recruited" generals of different factions multiple times. Care to share your favorites and the stories you have with them?

I'll start it off: My personal fave is Ziles, a Thracian (at the start of the game anyway ). He's young, so you get a lot of mileage out of him, and if you're located just about anywhere in Europe/Northern Asia he will significantly hurt the Thracian family tree when the time comes to take Byzantium. I remember one time playing as Germania I had him kill his brother (at that point the faction leader).

Well I bribed half the Seleucid and Pontic family tree with Egypt... don't have a favorite there.

Although, once, as the Scipii, I let Carthage live until 150 BC, when they'd conquered half of Spain and were pushing Egypt out of the Nile Valley (!!!), and I bribed a general with 8 stars. I had him exterminate Carthage.

*evil laughter* it's good being evil! mwahahaha.... in a game :shame:

In Rome: Total Realism you usually can't bribe generals. You can bribe armies though and many of the units become your own.:2thumbsup:

I never bribe anyone. The sheer principe is simple: if they can turn on their former masters they can turn on you and I do despise a traitor - off with his head! I have, once, bribed a young general named.... Hannibal Barca that was looming outside Carthago Nova. I just couldn´t resist it. I took him back to Rome for schooling and bestowed every possible commandtrait I had around and launched a fullscale invasion of.... Carthage, muuuahahaha vengence is mine. I could almost picture him sticking his head through the rammed gates of Carthage screaming: "I´m baaaack":laugh4:

:laugh4: That´s good.

I can´t recall having ever bribed a general belonging to another faction. Rebel generals, yes, if they had good traits, and to keep below the magic 50K. But otherwise, I like fighting - it´s the whole point of playing the game. Assassinations are fun as well, in my Egypt campaign I´ve made extensive use of it for the first time, but training them to an effective level is also a pain in the back and, apart from the fact that they remove a stack of heavy cavalry from the enemy´s army they´re damn uneffective - for each throat-cut family member a new one pops up immediately.

Oh, but you can. I bribed the closest general to my diplomat when I hit 50k in RTR as the Romans, and just used him as a heavy cav. He was in the way of my trade as well, and Northern Italia was not equipped to face him.

Hmm, with enough money, I guess you're right. I'll see...:book:
