Whats your fav. RTW or BI unit?

Thread title says it all. Well in RTW i like Spartans really strong and in BI Francsica Heerban for their axe throwing. (it kills a lot!)

For RTW, I like the bezerkers the best, they just absolutely chew through units three times their size.

For BI, I'm gonna be cheap and say Sassanid Immortals. :evil:

Well I only played Bi twice so I cant really say anything for that game, but in rtw my favorite would have to be arcani. They work wonders on walls during siege battles and are very fast.

Thracian mercenaries/infantry. Damn versatile semi-basic unit, and just look very cool on the battlefield.

For the usefulness and killing power, the Roman Legionaries (for obvious reasons).

For just looking good, the cataphracts.

Plumbatarii in BI - They are a fantastic unit - best Infantry Ive ever used.
Pharoah's Bowmen or Cretan Archers in RTW - I love Archers, and these are simply the best.

Immortals are actually Generals - so they don't really count. Graal knights are good, but slow.

Scythian Noble archers are a great unit in battles. They can hit the enemy with arrows and then run away. Or they can hit em with arrows and then charge them down and cut them to pieces.

1. Cataphracts- :knight: best heavy cavalry in RTW for plain slogging through the enemy
2. Cretan Archers- I send so many to the ferry man (Charon of Greek Mythology) with these guys
3. Scythian Mercs- I just love using these guys for skirmishing

For BI
1. Cbiirii Immortals- Gah!:eeeek: Almost nothing can take these guys out
2. Francisca Herban- human lawnmowers
3. Graal Knights- King Arthur anyone?

BI:it's a toss up between the chosen axemen and the Comitatenses, I'll have to go with the coms: so many memeries of me and the boys restroring rome to it's forme glory...many long sieges, many great battles against the hated barbarians ~:grouphug:

i also like principes and triarii. falxmen look cool but their stats dont look too impressing to me. anybody know why they are so good?

Cataphracts. If you need to fight the Roman legionaires (or any other heavily armoured infantry), those are the ones you´ll want. If their charge doesn´t crush the foot guys then their armour-piercing secondary weapon makes short work with the survivors.

My favorite unit in RTW would have to be the Armoured Elephants, just because they were simply unstoppable. In BI i would say that the GallowGlasses because they can really hold their own against almost anything.

my favorite unit is German spearmen warband,they are first level unit but they can win a batle against some 5level unit,if used corectly and if they are suported with screaching women they can destroy prety easily even the strongest Roman army.MY favorite cavalry is Light lancers.

I think Falxmen have the armour-piercing ability, which makes them pretty effective against cav and Roman Legionaries.

Historically it was very, very difficult for any early Roman commander to win from them - by using any whatever infantry.

That's because of the shape of the Falx: this allows the handler to use it as either a deadly axe, or a sort of scimitar style two handed sword! You could actually swing your falx around your enemy's shield!

Imagine what happened to those poor Romans with their wooden shields, and their simple helmets...

Their wooden shields would be cut trough, their helmets would be crushed...

And then remember: falxmen are a cheap, commonly available unit in the regions they originally came from.

Off course they would probably be crushed by the heavily armoured hoplites from Greece - their armour weighs about half of the soldier inside! -, but apart from those uber armoured guys no-one would have been willing to face a bunch of screaming, shouting wild barbarians with an unsettling lust for blood rushing at you, carrying something that's probably the last thing you'll ever see.

My favourite units in RTW:
Armoured Hoplites, they look mean - and little stands in their way.
Pontic Heavy cavalry - they will eat any Roman infantry except Triarii or better, and that's great because I'm very anti-Roman in my RTW-games.
Arcani, they look good too.
Elephants, watch a single line of elephants thundering through entire armies!
Sacred band (hoplites) in XGM, for being so utterly destructive.
Berserkers, for beating all those Romans in the field.
(Heavy) Onagers, for winning entire battles for me.
