View Full Version : Rome: Total Realism and Europa Barbarorum?
Is it possible to have both of these mods installed on my computer at the same time? Do I have to delete RTR before I can install EB? Thanks!

No, you can't have them both unless you install R:TW twice into seperate directories.
It's simple.
- Install RTW.
- Patch RTW to 1.2
-Go to (default) My computer > Local Disc(c) > Program Files > Activision.
- Inside the Activision folder, right click on the Rome: Total War folder and click 'Copy'.
- Right click on an empty space on your desktop and click paste.
- Wait 5 or so minutes for it to copy.
Now you have 2 versions of RTW on your computer. One on your desktop and one in the Activision folder in program files. Install EB to one of them, make ANOTHER copy, so that you have 2 on your desktop, and install RTR to one of those. Keep one free so that you can make copies of it and install future builds of RTR and EB without having to re-install the game again.

Very good advice. Be sure that you add EB and RTR to the copies, NOT the original. The reason being that you'll want to upgrade it to 1.5 in order to support future versions of EB and RTR. (The patches are very picky, and won't let you choose which "version" of RTW to upgrade.)
I have a lot of HDD space so I have vanilla RTW 1.2 & BI directories plus EB & RTR directories.
Generally best to keep the additional copies more or less in the same place for simplicity.
Make shortcuts to the .exe in each directory, name appropriately & drag onto the start menu for easy access.

You could always save the patch files instead of clicking install. By the way, for getting 1.5 can I just install BI?

I am not quite sure what you are saying. The R:TW patch will only install in the "official folder" (I assume this is either the folder called "Rome - Total War" or the first one you install the game in). There is no way that I know of to extract the files from the patch without using the installer. Therefore, and for other reasons, it is important that you keep the "official folder" clean, i.e. no mods. I actually have five copies of R:TW on my computer: 1.2, 1.3, 1.5 (official folder), Community Mod (dating from my aborted attempt at MP) and EB.

No. To upgrade vanilla R:TW to 1.5 you either need to install the 1.5 patch or install BI and the 1.6 patch (which will upgrade vanilla R:TW to 1.5 as well). Or you can get the Gold version, which AFAIK comes patched already.

You could always get a friend to give you the 1.5 files. I downloaded an uploaded .zip file of all the files that would be replaced in patch 1.2 myself, because it didn't let me re-install 1.2 to the other file.
EDIT: Five hundred posts! :balloon:

you can still fit in chivalry TW in there mate! played it in MP for a while, with some online maties. (you CAN only play MP, so...)
HD's are so big nowadays it shouldn't be much of an issue. Mines 2 years old and I still hold many programs.
I've got EB, Vanilla (as safety back up), World of Warcraft, Knights of the Old Republic, Warcraft III, Simcity 4, and Cossacks (worst game ever)
I win! :2thumbsup: (or lose, depending upon how important a real life is) :laugh4:

if those are all full installs you won but it was a close call. (you are so lucky I don't have BI!)
Just a lil' note on Kull's folders...there's a folder for 241 units, and a folder for 88 units. Any chance the 241 are the current units, and there are then a whole 88 new guys coming in with 1.5?
And to stay on topic, I'm using JSGME mod thingybopper, so I have EB+late period, RTW 1.5, and RTR Platinum+Darthmod+TFT (none of which I've ever had the chance to play), plus Ghost Recon and Command and Conquer (old school), so its mainly RTW taking up my space.

Man, that's a nice system Kull. Mine is much more haphazard:

Some of those older ones just contain UI files, building files, and banners/flags though.

What if I only have BI installed? Does it mean I can't use the 1.5 built of EB? Then I would have to install it all again:wall:
No,
if you have Bi installed, you can use the 1.5 version of Rome, you only need the 1.6 patch.
It's a little bit confusing :dizzy2: but i try a explanation:
If you install the BI Expansion Pack on Rome TW, Your Rome is automatically Patched to 1.3.
You get a new subdirectory for BI with an .exe to start BI, which is version 1.4.
If you install the 1.6 update for BI, your BI directory is updated to 1.6, and your Rome directory to 1.5.
There is no difference between your Rome 1.5 with the BI expansion pack installed, and a RTW 1.5 version without BI.
So you can play all mods for 1.5 :2thumbsup:

Ok, i've got 1.6...So when I copy the folder in order to get a clean 1.5 version for my EB then I have to leave out the BI folder or do I have to copy it as well?

You can leave it out. R:TW 1.5 should work on its own.
