View Full Version : Increased interest in MTW lately?
Perhaps it's just my imagination, but it seems like there's been a lot more people in the MTW section of the forums this last month or two. Not that I'm complaining, mind you; I think it's fantastic! :2thumbsup: I'm just curious as to why this is happening.
Are a bunch of us "regulars"--just by coincidence--suddenly getting back into the game again at around the same time? Has the upcoming release of Medieval 2 spurred some of the relatively newer TW players into checking out its older brother? Or is it some other factor that I'm not even thinking of? (For myself, I'm still playing MTW almost as much now as I was when I first got the game over three years ago.)
Either way, I've seen more activity here in the Medieval forums in the last several weeks than I have in months, and that's awsome! ~:)

I had a break last month, that should explain the increased forumtraffic.
;)
I'm playing some Dux and STWmod at times (it was a sabbatical of more than a year for me). So I also contribute a little bit to this increase.
Just got VI, so I guess that got me going ...

I took up MTW VI (XL) after a brief break to play Civ3 and Colonization (in dosbox  ) and also some other things like playing music and life
Now I am back on track...
Waiting for EB to make the 1.5 port and decided i would try MTW since everybody always says it's a better game than RTW.
They're right.

I just started playing a few months ago after I saw RTW at my brother's place. My own PC is too crap to run RTW, so I'm 'stuck' with MTW, which I happen to like better than RTW anyway. :P
Gonna get it beefed up for when MTW2 comes out Vlad my blood sucking friend?

oh terrible joke.
I've not touched MTW for quite a while, I think if i did I'd be back to square one when it comes to the battles...
I've been fooling around with MTW for years, a spot game here, a battle there. Recently I committed myself to some house rules and an English campaign in early. House rule 1 was to see the campaign untill the end, no matter the outcome. So I have been here more probably because my refocused approach to campaigns.

My laptop at uni cant run RTW, so ive come back to MTW. :2thumbsup:
I've gotten into the VI campaign lately. Never tried it until recently, the smaller map is great since I don't have much spare time as I used to.

I just got MTW: Gold Edition for £5 in the UK, so I'd imagine you'll see a few more newbie budget-buyers like me, with questions and things :dizzy2:

Exactly. MTW is much better than vanilla RTW.
With EB, the balance shifts much. :2thumbsup:
I havent played MTW in quite sometime but come to think I havent played any computer games lately. But I always come to the MTW section to see if I can help anybody out.

I still play it every now and then. I guess the prospect of M:TW2 reinvigorated my current interest.

I've been taking a break the last couple of months (been playing the Baldurs Gate series) but think I'll start up another campaign soon.
I haven't bought any new games for ages (at least 15 months) as I feel kind of alienated these days with the current direction of games. Maybe I'm just getting old but todays titles look rather gorgeous but feel like empty shells.

For whatever reason, I played but never really got into RTW. With the MTW 2 announcement, I have started playing MTW again to get ready for the new release.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's Dux? It sounds like it's a mod of some sort, but I confess I haven't heard of it.
(By the way, when did you demote yourself back to regular member? And why?)

It's ok, it was the worst pun I could come up with. :P
@Dayve: I'm not sure yet. I'm very tempted, but I'll see how well it's received before I make any rushed decisions.

That's the cheapest I've heard of it being sold so far. Probably the greatest game bargain of all time.
The renewed interest in MTW has obviously been generated by M2TW's release, and Segas re-release of the old Activision published Battle Collection rebranded as "Gold Edition". For the most part these people will probably ditch MTW once M2TW is released late this year. Several others probably won't be able to get it to run at all, or only partially (there are posts about CTDs all over the .com).
I finished an Egyptian RTW campaign and decided to give MTW a shot again, this time trying the early era - usually I play at High.
Therefore, I pay closer attention to the MTW section at the moment.

It's a MP mod, you can see the sticky in the Jousting Fields forum if you 're interested in some serious online playing;)
(And should you say you don't play MP due to the usual reasons, look at Tosa: he abandoned his Admin post in order to be able to play more often online:p).
CTD's? It isn't even out yet is it? Is a demo out or something? I can't visit the .com... Banned. :viking:

I dumped my girlfriend recently and now I have more time to post and play MTW........this must be the reason why!
PS. If any of you are in the same situation.... the answer to the question your wife/partner/girlfriend keeps asking is.........YES I do love totalwar more.

:laugh4: She hasn't asked yet, I'm dreading that day. Hopefully I don't put too long a pause in before lying, "Of course I love you more. Now can you go watch TV, I've got a battle to fight..."

Off Topic and irrelevant for the Org. If you want to discuss this, you may do so through our wonderful Private Message system.

:laugh4: Because i can't keep my mouth shut sometimes and tell my true opinion, in the off topic section...
I got banned 4 times actually... The 4th being the final one where they banned my IP so i couldn't join again.
Oh well never mind, anyway the powers that be don't want it discussed, so:

I for one have never left MTW, and RTW doesn't do it for me, so I'm accustomed to this game and less than jaw dropping graphics, but i think alot of people could buy this and be quite disappointed, because nowadays it's sadly all about eye candy.
Not for me it isn't. MTW is better in most respects than RTW. The only thingsRome has on Medieval is better graphics and the controls, which are much MUCH better than the ones in Medieval.
Medieval has better AI and much more features, a lot more interesting than the very few Rome has... Even the way naval control works is better, since the water is split into 'provinces', you know which ones you control. In Rome, it was just one big body of water with no seperations. Also the recruitment of vessels is better in Medieval, big recruitment cost and low upkeep to reflect how the crews were mostly away from home and couldn't be paid until they returned, besides they got to loot the enemy ships once they had a battle so i imagine pay wasn't so high anyhow.
Factions can return and there is civil war, which is awesome when you have to pick which side you want to back, although i have yet to experience a civil war i am greatly looking forward to it!
But yeah i don't care what anybody says, graphics will never make a game. My favourite game of all time will always be Final Fantasy 7, which is what, 9 years old? And the graphics there are terrible.

I haven't played MTW in over a year or more. Recently I have less time to play computer games coupled with some buggy computers (will start to get those fixed soon). Great game, one of my favorites, love those battles and the economic management as well. Still, I have learned a few things on the forum, so I plan to return to playing it when I can sneak in games when my wife is out:2thumbsup: !

I borrowed the game from a friend, and decided I like it, so I bought it yesterday. Gold edition cost me £10, btw. Bought STW for £4.99 too.
Now I have all 3 TW games, still undecided as to my favourite.

Dang, right when I stop visiting regularly is when this place heats up? Come on, guys, I promise I shower everyday! I can't be that bad to hang around. :laugh4:
Anyway, I'm glad to hear it, and sorry for my frequent absence of late. As in Bretwalda's case, it's been other games and real life (and finals currently, ugh).
Here's hoping for plenty of continued traffic in the MTW section!

I've always liked MTW, but only found the .org recently. There's been a bit of a hiatus recently, as I took the decision to move completely over to Apple Macs (I work on these things too!)
Luckily, it appears that my MacBook Pro can be booted into Windows now, so once I've got that set up, I'm back on the MTW trail. :2thumbsup:
Even more luckily, my wife doesn't have a problem with my playing - she's a history buff too, and is heavily into Crusdader Kings which runs neatly on her Mac. She likes the strategic and dynasty building aspects.

I like Medieval Total War a little better than Rome simply because its so much easier and fluid, all the provinces are clearly marked out and you can travel the globe in pretty much one turn with ships. Its just a little easier thats why I like it.
