Hi,

I have joined this forum specifically to try to get help with this problem as you guys really seem clued up on all things Total War. I have owned a copy of STW WE for some time now and love it to bits. It ran fine on my computer when I last used it (just over a year ago). Since then, I have installed MTW and ungraded to from XP SP1 to XP SP2. I now find that MTW still runs OK but STW doesn't. What's happening is the game loads OK, it goes through the selection of starting age and clan OK but then the screen goes black when it tries to display the campaign map. The game is still running OK, just no display.

I know I had both STW and MTW running OK at one time, so I put the problem down to SP2. Any ideas? I really want to get this game running again as I prefer it to MTW.

Thanks in advance

I'm running STW: WE and MTW: GE on XP Home SP2.

2 problems I needed to deal with:

1) CTD's when starting a Campaign in MTW and STW. Caused by display Driver version usually. The old TW's don't like newer Drivers :wall:

Using older display Drivers (Nvidia 61.77, for my GeForce 4 MX) worked.

2) Shogun got to the Menu then went black... familiar?

Fixed by running DxDiag and reducing Sound Hardware Acceleration to Basic.

Hope that gives you a few ideas :dizzy2:

Shieldmaiden,

Thanks for your help. I tried the sound thing - no change, but I'm not sure how to regress my display drivers. I have Intel Extreme Graphics (is that right?) and I can find where the drivers are located on the system (filename seems to be ialmnt5.sys) but I haven't a clue what to do next.

Any help you might be able to give would be appreciated.

Thanks

crispa,

have you tried reinstalling STW?

Thanks for your help guys. I have tried reinstalling STW - several times  .

Sasaki, that thread looks like it might be helpful but the problem there seems to be a crash to desktop wheras my problem isn't a crash. The game is still running, you even get the sound effects when you click on the campaign map. It's just that I can't see the map for some bizarre reason. :wall: I'll carry on sifting through the thread but if anyone else has seen this problem I would love to know.

Thanks
