Basically I cannot find any key that opens the Romeshell. I Have tried both the ~ and also the ¬ (the one next to number 1) Neither of these open the console window. Do I need to enable cheats in the preferences txt file?

Its possible. For me I press the ~. It works so, try to look at your preferences. I never had to change anything. It automatically worked. Good luck.

TBH I wouldn't know what I was looking for in the preferances but I think I'm barking up the wrong tree anyway. I've even uninstalled the game and reinstalled with no luck. Checked it each time after installing 1.0, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.5. Just will not open up the console no matter which key I try.

I don't think anything in the preference text file let's you change either the key to activate Romeshell or the activation of Romeshell.

I have no idea what the problem might be, for me the ~ key works fine.

On a side note, what is it that you need Romeshell for - which cheat ?

If it's a cheat like fog of war off, then you could change that in the preference text file - you wouldn't necessarily need Romeshell for something like that.

When I played the game before and what ultimately stopped me playing it was the length of time for new buildings in the cities to produce better units etc. So I guess the cheats I want are the add money one and the process cq.

Well I suppose you could give yourself something like 9999999 denarii at the start of the game, by altering your (factions) starting money.

Altering the production time ingame is unfamiliar to me, so I can't help with that.

Though one might make every building take one turn to build, but I imagine every faction would profit from such a change - making it less favorable to do so.

ok, so how do you change starting money?

In the Rome: Total War folder go to Data/World/Maps/Campaign/Imperial Campaign/descr_stat.txt. In the text file you'll find all the factions and their starting info (cities, armies present, etc). Alter the starting money there.
