Topic name is the question,I just got a message of carthage taking over a place named kyrene.Any idea where that is?
It's on the North African Coast in modern day Libya and southwest of the island of Crete. I think that it was originally a Greek colony.

Yeah, it was a Greek colony. But it soon mixed up with the orientals and natives, and it became an independent city.

Does that trigger war with your faction? (explains why it pops up) Also, is it possible for say the KH to be allied to a faction that has taken control of Thermon? Or is it hostile relations until the KH have it?
Kyrene is the capital (I think) of the Roman province of Cyreneia.

It doesn' trigger a war stance. except if you have Thermon.
And indeed, Kyrene was the capital of Cyrenaica, mainly because it's advantageous position on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Are you sure about that?
As the Ptolemies, some damned fool always sneaks behind my back and attacks independant Kyrene, forcing me to declare war on them.
Halikarnossos, too, I think? One of those cities in modern day Turkey, anyway.

Yeah, it's Halikarnassos. A shame, I want it as much as I want to keep the Ptolemaics as my allies...

I've thought about that, too. Can you just bribe the city?
If you're in the area, you might wanna take Sardis and Ipsos off the Seleukids, and "liberate" Pergamon from the Elutheroi, and take Nikomedia (from Pontos, who seem to inevitibly go after it). As long as you can hold 'em long enough to build Mines +1, cash should NOT be a concern...
I played a KH campaign where I abandoned Greece and relocated to Byzantium. Got a bit dicey as I waited to get back in the black, and for a while, I was fending off the Makedonians with psiloi and mercenary hoplites, but it was worth it as I had a fantastic starting position to take the aforementioned cities, go about mining to fund my dynasts eventual triumphant return and liberation of the homeland from those mangy Makedonian dogs...
edit: There's a pirate fleet floating around somewhere. And a Makedonian fleet. 7 times out of 10, you can beat the Makedonian one, but the pirates will "Arrr, Matey" your boats to the depths. Might wanna land your men near Byzantium and foot it in from there. That's if you're interested in relocating to Byzantium for your Konion Hellenon opening moves. If not... move along, nothing to see here. Move along.

Actually, in my Ptolemaioi campaign, Kyrene and Halikarnassos are conquered, and I have a Sweboz-named Rebel pirate which sunk a 12 fleet naval army. :furious3:
