No I don't think they should be shot but one thing that always ticked me off about protest is that they get in the way:furious3: If you want to voice your opinion kudos to you but don't clog up traffic.

No, I don't want them to beat and hit with the fire hose or anything evil like that (unless it turns into a riot then you can sick the dogs on em:laugh4: ) But I think most protest annoy people more then get them to take up the protestors' cause:juggle2:

From those pictures , a very mixed bunch .
I do like the Osama bin forgotten placard :2thumbsup:
Perhaps if the protesters had more thought they could have used the State Depts. reports to show that the war on terror is absolute crap .
That darfur one does seem out of place considering recent statments .:skull:

the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

This is why we need the 2nd ammendment, so we can clear the street infront of our houses more easily.

Why does this kind of rhetoric always come from the same people over and over again?

Hay not to go OT but we DO need guns.

An armed person is a citizen, an unarmed person is a subject:no:

I do not want to go ot so that is all I will say about it. But if you start a gun control thread I will be there thats an issue I actually know a lot about:laugh4:

i agree - i hate these sorts of protests. they're impotent and all they do is affirm that those in power are safe to remain in power because that's as much resistence from citizens as they're going to get. these silly little american demonstrations wrap up by mid afternoon and then everybody goes back to shopping and forgets all about it.

now france knows how to have protests.

That was evil, Tribesman. Evil... but funny as hell.

So anyway, is anyone feeling up to a little Abbie Hoffman style protest? Hell, let's get this thing going- let us beat our plowshares into swords and our pruning hooks into spears!

Protests for our last unpopular (and by some accounts - illegal) war began in 1967, became fervent in 1968 and ceased around 1972 - once the troops began coming home and it was promised they would all (but advisory) be home by 1973.

We have a right to protest, even though there is now a "definition of area to protest" with concern to dignitarys and politicians today.

I imagine few of you were alive or are even aware of the 1968 peace protests in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention, or after (or the protests for freedom in Praugue, Mexico City, - or the student protests in London, Paris, Berlin, etc - all beginning in 1968). For me, it was culture shock - I left the country in 67' to go "across the pond" (all the ... "kill a gook for me"..and what not) and came home (Chicago) to an entirely different universe. One that didn't approve of "my" war - of course by that time I was having serious doubts about it myself (but, never about the troops).

Point is, it may seem that such protests are meanial - insignificant. But, at the end of the day these insignificant protestors (that go back to their daily lives of shopping and "soccer Mom", "Little League Dad") still raise the awareness that there are those that are will to take their time and use it in a manner that is time honored in this land. That being - to rail against the mighty for something they believe in. In this case, ending an illegal occupation - bring the boys home ... and do so NOW! Or, atleast devulge a plan to bring them home and maintain stability in the region - neither of which the Bush team have a clue about. But, they do have some great platitudes for the true believers to regurgitate.

now france knows how to have protests.

With US gun culture, a France-style protest would probably result in a civil war...

That said, despite all your guns, the French government probably fears the people more than the US government, and isn't that kind of the point ?

Yes, but they have them over silly things...
I remember that there wasone in July back in '89, all because some woman told them to eat more cake...

They really do protest over the silliest things in France... "ooh, I dropped my croissant and the evil capitalist bourgeoisie cafe owner won't give me a replacement. Let us all march down the Champs Elysee and storm the Luxembourg Palace, or the Louvre Palace, or wherever we mighty French place our aristocratic Prime Ministers these days!"

Yargh! Protests are so irritating. They just clog up traffic like stated earlier. Roadside ones political rallies are equally annoying when I need a parking spot nearby and they come over thinking I'm a supportor. Worst are pro environment protests and then the next day at the dump I find a bunch of their signs already in there (my county doesn't pickup garbage, you need to drop it off at tranfer stations).

As earlier stated as well protests aren't all to effect but they do occasionally raise awareness about certain issues. For actual effectivness I imagine if each of those protestors bothered to write an intelligent well though out letter and mailed it to all their elected representatives nessasery to effect the desired change then something would probably happen.

Interested to see how the mass immigrant protest will go. I frankly hope that the turnout is huge but that the economy is hardly effected and people realize they aren't that crucial to the economy and won't be afraid to be stricter on ILLEGAL immigrants.
Note: Please don't let last paragraph turn this into an immigrantion thread

I think it is great to see people exercising their rights! GO FREEDOM!

What I think is totally lame and very representative of the US in general is how fractured the message of the protest is. Get it together people, today Iraq war, tomorrow immigration, Darfur the next day and the battle against armpit hair the following.

Quality pics Soly!:2thumbsup:
