I'm not sure if its appropriate to discuss about this game this early. ~;p
Anyways let me get into the details, the developers are Ubisoft montreal and they are combining the expertise of both the PoP team and Splinter Cells team to make a truly next gen stealth game in the medieval era, you play an assassin called Altair (not sure if the name means anything, literally translated it means The Flyer), and your objective is to assassinate figures from both sides to pressure them to stop fighting for world peace (sounds pretty silly).
Ok you are probably bored reading this [rubbish], so lets get on to the images:

Lordy. Dumping on history and reallity for the sake of a few squid. How origional! :dizzy2: Pretty though.. should be fun too, if it's going to be like SC.

Ok discuss.
Yes, my sheik!
Will it be released on several platforms?
I still own only a computer and don´t plan on buying a console.
But it doesn´t look bad, the screens look like they were taken from cutscenes(the first looks a lot like artwork) so I guess one can not judge the gameplay yet.
EDIT: Nothing to see here. Just editing the quote to match the original post. Move along, move along. Froggy

Gamespot says it's a PS3 title, so I won't be getting it unless they port to PC at some point. I'm not a console person (or rather, most of the games I enjoy the best -- strategy and simulation, don't tend to show up on consoles).

First of all my apologies to frogbeastegg, too much chat discussions and i forgot all about the .org rules, i will keep my language much cleaner in future posts. :shame:

They announced it for Xbox 360 earlier, and i'm sure they will release a PC version as they did for all their other titles, so i'm not too worried about it.

If they stuck to history it would have been loads better, but instead they made them the OH SO PEACE LOVING GUYS THAT THEY WILL KILL PEOPLE FOR IT. the irony is pretty immense.. ~;p

Ah, you never know with them fanatics. ~;)
Anyways, this looks very promising. When PoP's action and puzzle-oriented environments meet Splinter Cell's strategy and sneakiness you're pretty much in action-adventure heaven.
Plus, it's in the oft-forgotten medieval Middle East too! Great! :2thumbsup:

This looks awesome, I can live out my fantasies of being an RTW assasin, with a retinue.

Sounds good! Too bad it's for PS3.
For a moment there I thought his crossbow was a sniper rifle

I just stumbled across a Preview of this marvelous game in my copy of GameStar a German PC Games magazine, so no worries there, the game will definitely be available for non-console users like me.
Just for some detailed information:
The game takes place in the year 1191 during the Third Crusade and you have to kill 9 key figures that actually died in the year 1191 which all would have gained profit if the Third Crusade had been successful.
You get the chance to visit several locations in the Holy Land including Acre, Damascus and Jerusalem.
Just a little overview if you want to know more just check out the Official Website:
http://assassinscreed.uk.ubi.com/
They already have several videos and a Designer Diary up there.
Another piece of information I got from the GameStar article states that the populace of the cities will take a major role in the gemplay. Your actions are supposed to have an impact on the populace. So if you start climbing a building in broad daylight a crowd will gather to see what you're up to or if you push aside several people in a crowd just to get to your assassination target they'll get angry at you.
On the other hand if you don't randomly kill bystanders or otherwise worsen your relations with the populace they'll begin to realize that you're ultimatley helping them by assassinating people they dislike and may help you by blocking the path of yor pursuiers or helping to hide you.
I really like the historical setting of the game and would just love to explore the cities as they might have looked in 1191. I've always liked the Thief series for PC but they had too much Fantasy in it, so I like the more realistic approach of UbiSoft. The information released so far sounds promising, but much depends on the implementation of the game mechanics. I'm already wondering what happens if I try to run through a crowded market square. Will the crowd part, do I automatically bump them all aside or will I just walk into a solid wall, while my character's animation still shows me running. If they manage to implement those things well and you can really move in the final game somewhat similar to what has been shown in the movies I am very tempted to buy this game.
Cheers!

I've been keeping an eye on this game too.
Apparently it's not a stealth game, so don't expect it to be like the Thief series. It's very likely that it will also feature fantasy/sci-fi elements, so don't expect too much realism either.
Now, the game is developed by the Prince of Persia team and I believe that might be a good starting point for what the final game will be like. We know it will feature a ton of climbable objects and context sensitive actions, like PoP. Since it's not going to be a stealth game, and it's very likely you will be chased by guards I actually expect this game to feature a lot of fast paced 'platforming' in order to make your escape. The abilities make me believe that the city will be sort of like a Castlevania castle in that a lot of areas will only be accessible after you gain those abilities.
Of course, i could be totally wrong with what it will be, Ubi claims it's going to be something totally unique, let's wait and see what they can come up with :2thumbsup:
so don't expect it to be like the Thief series.
How could anything be like the Thief series, and no I'll just bluntly deny that there was ever something called 'deadly shadows'. The game looks interesting, but I am not getting my hopes up yet. The POP and SC are both enjoyable, but stealthgames need to be open ended.

Actually, in interviews, the developers have said that they are gunning for urban environments that allow you as much freedom as possible these days.
Oh did they say that, thank god it will rock after all ~;)
I kinda stopped listening to developers, always the best intention but they have to feed the leeches to survive. Ubisoft has never pulled of a decent stealthgame, and now I admit that I am a horrible Thief fanboy but I have yet to see a reason why I shouldn't be given the offspring of it's competition. I'll just wait for the reviews and drool over Bioshock in the meantime.

Just stumbled across this:
Gameplay Footage: Lo-Res (http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=13511&type=wmv&pl=game), Hi-Res (http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=13658&type=mov)
So this somewhat waylays the fears I voiced in my previous post. And I also have to agree that a comparison to Thief can be found lacking. Still I guess it's gonna turn into a nice game. Just hope the Jump and Rund Sequences will not make the largest part of the game, but also that planning and a careful approach to the target will be necessary.

I suppose you could be right, considering CA <-> RTW -- but then, I haven't seen any game footage to doubt them. ~;)
One thing I'm wondering, though: the official site says you're playing "an Assassin". So... Hashshashin? :inquisitive:
No I've watched that game play video. The assassin you play is quite obviously european. And in the video he was wearing a stealth version of the crusader habat. White with a red cross on it. Plus he did missions to help monks.

Hmm I'm not very impressed with the gameplay footage. The crowd seems gimmicky (the hand animation when you gently push people aside needs work) the fight doesn't seem very interesting and the actual assassination was way too easy (they didn't notice you coming near ?). Graphics aren't spectacular either (I'm not a gfx whore but compared to those screenshots ...)
Well the footage is from a beta. And those screens are from Ubisoft. Who as a company are notorious for fositing renders as screenshots. Or photoshopping a screen shot into looking twice as good as what the final game will look like.

I find Ubisoft to be one of the best publishers, these guys know how to make games, and they always look fantastic. Think of the Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell games, no doubt greatlooking titles. Not really sure what you are talking about here.
And I will always love them for making Beyond Good and Evil <---play this
I'm not denying that Ubisoft doesn't make good games. Just that they have a tendency to pad what the games looks will actually deliver.
Well, that gameplayer trailer looked somewhat easy.
The player walked up behind the victim and his guards , killed him and the guards just watched him, by the time he ran away he could've been dead already.:inquisitive:

Could be a disguise (though, admittedly, I doubt it).
But the site says you fight against the success of the Third Crusade. What European, what "Frank", could possibly want that to fail? :dizzy2:

You're a time traveller it would seem, so you shouldn't look for the answer in history...

Well it's PC you know. I wonder if we'll have a sequel fighting against the success of the Turks as they try to conquer Europe?
I'll admit games don't have to make sense to be good - but it sure does help.

I read a preview or review for this game sometime ago. Looked pretty good and looked fun.
