Favorite Faction

What was your favorite faction in RTW and why.


Mine was Parthia because it was a faction that could you could easily defend, because of the mountains. This faction also had Cataphracts and Persian Calvary which could easily take on any other army in the game and still be mobile enough to get around in the desert. Lastly there was easy provinces that could be taken to the east and north.

Carthage

Hard to defend, Numidians on one side, Romans on another, Iberians on another still. I could play them 10 times and win a different way each time. You can carve up Iberia, or advance south, or north into Italia. The choice is yours. And you have an easy natural defence against other nations, the Med. Sea and the Desert.

Singleplayer - I like they're starting position on the campaign map but most of all love they're units. Pity they don't have archers though.
Multiplayer - I love Carthage in RTW MP because of they're wide variety of units, and they can take on any faction.

for single player mine was the greeks, very challenging campaign to play and you can use those awesome Spartans :)

For multiplayer it would be a toss up between Armenia and Seleucids. Basically they are both flexible factions and best of all they arnt roman :)

Macedon. Great faction symbol, good units, one of my most memorable campaigns and I also like the history behind the faction.

The Macedonian Lambda wouldn't have made sense seeing that Macedon doesn't begin with an "L". Anyway, I'd have to say I prefer the mods. Usually the Romans, Carthaginians or some form of Greeks. I don't have a fixed fave.

I have to go with good ole Rome. They are really good all around. Praetorians, legions, heavy onagers, and archer auxilia. You have all your bases covered and can dominate everyone. Both in single player and multiplayer.

Romans. Almost a no contest. If Triarii were available post-marian reforms, it would most definitely be a no contest.

Can't decide between the Julii, Seleucids or the Armenians.

The Julii just because I really like those red Romans.

The Seleucids because they can fight and humiliate the Egyptians right away, plus they have the best unit roster of the game.

And the Armenians I like because of those great horse archer units and their challenging starting position.

Dacia

-Falxmen is the coolest unit in RTW
-Archer Warband the first missile unit (wich is cool,rather than peltasts or skirmishers)
-Good starting position (between the Carphatians,with 2 forts you can block any invasion)
-They are the only barbarians that can build ONAGERS !!
-You have multiple choices to go for (conquer macedon in the south,germania in the west,scythia in the north,thrace in the east)
-Nice area for mercenaries recruitment (sarmatian cavalry,+4 units of scythian HA,also bastranea & thracian mercenaries,bm and peltasts..so nice veriety)
-Nice faction symbol
-Doesn't have overpowered units like other factions so its quite challenging to conquer the world)
-Doesn't have stinky elephants!
-I like all @ Dacia !

From barbarians I like Germans the most,they have great troops and have lot of enemies,also you must build carefuly becouse they have realy poor economic,but their military might is awesome,they are strongest barbarian faction,I also like Macedon,but I dont know why do they have greek"lambda" simbol,Spartans had Lambda on their shields as it was first letter of the greek alphabet for their country(Laconia)even so I like Macedon very much,I think they have best early cavalry in the game.

Carthage for me too. Just a personal favourite as I had one of my most manic battles as them. Managed to take on three Brutii armies in one battle and win on a virtually flat plain with little cover available for ambush.

Unit roster isn't exactly fantastic but in another sense it makes the battles more of a challenge. Fights against Egypt are often the most edgy affairs considering what they can deploy against you.

yes carthage is quite good, sacred bands cav and infantry make a pretty good team, but their lack of archers can be tough, but nothing a little modding wont fix. :2thumbsup:
