View Full Version : Real-Time battles don't work in 1.5 when they do in 1.6
Well, as the topic says.
I'm currently trying to get Chivalry playable for both 1.5 RTW and 1.6 BI - and the campaign map runs fine in both.
But when I try to start a battle in the 1.5 exe, the game CTDs on load or, in the case of custom battles, kicks me back to the custom battle faction selection screen.
The really weird thing about this is that the exact same custom battles work perfectly in the BI exe...
So, does anybody have any ideas what might cause this?
I don't have any swimming or hording units in edu btw.
Which version of Chivalry do you use? The version that was released a while back was for 1.2 and, at least as far as I know, the current version that is not released is being developed for BI.
I'm using the current internal beta that hasn't been released yet and is in development for BI ;)
I'm still trying to get it to work in 1.5 because I'm not using BI-only features yet so why exclude a large group of players for nothing?
Btw, apparently you don't know this: together with Militiaman, I'm leading the Chivalry dev team right now

that usualy means a problem with map.rwm or descr_strat. Try regeneration the campaign map.rwm file and paste all the files from the imperial_campaign/barbarian_invasion folder to the base folder. Something like that should fix the problem.

While you do not have given any units the swimming attribute, are there any swimming animations present? If so then 1.5 might not know what to do with them and stop loading the battle. Just use the Rome 1.5 files as a base and mod them. It should work.
Edit: you probably need to listen to Adherbal. But why make C:TW playable on both 1.5 and 1.6? Why not just 1.5? Anyone who has bought BI and upgraded it 1.6 automatically has 1.5 so you only need to mod for 1.5.

it was orginally made for BI (1.6). I think it makes sense moving to RTW 1.5 cos BI hardly adds anything new.

No, I didn´t know that.
I don´t know much about BI, as I don´t have it, but it sounds like there´s some issue with the battles, probably it has to do with the models, are the BI models stored in the same directory as the ones of the Imperial campaign? And are they entered in the same files (models_battle, EDU, EDU_enums and whatever else) or does BI have its onw set of these files? If the latter, that might be the reason, though then I wonder why the campaign map should work.
bi models can be stored in either directory, but it has its own set of text files, the path for the models is referenced in them.
Ah sorry, forgot to mention that Adherbal had it right. The game apparently needs a working imperial_campaign for the custom battles (at least those in custom_tiles.txt).
Thanks for your suggestions :)
