Is it possible to destroy the Rebel faction? I realize it's virtually impossible, but, in theory, can it be done? That would be nice, I hate all those peasants that block my trade.

Enter \\Activision\Rome - Total War\Data\fmv\lose, or \\Activision\Rome - Total War\bi\data\fmv; and you`ll find something interesting.

It might be that if you destroy every unit of Rebels, they might stop to appear. Just pure speculation, tho. And if that`s the way to do it, you`d needed to have control over the whole map, such that destroying them is pretty useless anyway.

Probably a good idea to ask those who have played long EB campaigns on VH. On most of those maps, the whole map is coloured by then, with no rebels left (at least no settlements). They might have an answer to your question.

I don´t think its possible, though I´d love to be proved wrong. As far as I understand it, the rebel faction is more of a dummy faction, encompassing all local rebels (the other way would have been one rebel faction per province).

don't think so, i took every setttlement in vanilla and there were still loads of rebels, ive also lost all my family members when playing as rebels in rebel commander in bi and kept going, so i don't think they can die as such but when i put 999999 for a brigand (and pirate) spawn value (in descr strat) i got much much less brigands

They probably act like the ERER and WRER, not always there but can always pop back alive again.

Hi there,

first of all I should mention that I f... hate rebels!

This done, yet, I see the positive aspect of these annoying mosquitos... damn, I can't remember.

However, I wondered if the appearance frequency goes down if you keep hunting rebel armies down? I mean, do they even care if the police is out there?
And on the flipside, do the more rebels appear in a province the less you do about them?

Secondly, when the area of earth around a rebel army (e.g. when standing on a trade route) gets more and more burned and darkened every turn, does this mean the rebels are destroying fields and robbing my traders? I mean, I am pretty sure they do so, but I've never actually noticed a significant effect on my income.

Thirdly, I think the rebel armies are too well equipped with weapons. I mean, they're supposed to represend some peasants and thiefs robbing for food.

Anyway, just felt like writing

keep conquering

their good for ''training'' up armys (especially when their just armys of peasants) but if you want rid of most of them try making the changes i suggested earlier, to the desc strat, it reduced their numbers a lot when i tried it

Nobody really knows what makes brigands appear, but some people do report that ignoring them seems to increase the spawn rate.

The blackened land leads to a devastation penalty on your income: it can get quite high if the brigands are ignored. Also, they block trade.

Not quite: you had robbers everywhere, but the dangerous concentration of brigands often included real warriors. Also, since there were few standing armies and warfare was common, many people would have had some military equipement, and they would know how to use it.
