So, as the title asks, which 3rd gen console will you be wanting to get? I for one will definitely be wanting the Wii, as it seems to be the only console offering a good range of games and innovation, while the Xbox360 is just pretty graphics and the PS3 is the same, only with parts stolen from Nintendo consoles (motion sensor in the controller for a start).

None of them - I'm firmly a PC gamer. No matter how good the console hardware, within months there will be better for the PC.

I agree with my two fellow posters above me and won't be getting any consoles anytime soon. Their games generally cost more to buy and are usually inferior to PC games, so I'll be sticking with my trusty comp for a few years yet :2thumbsup:

I'll probably end up buying a wii, but only when the prices come down.

Saving my shekels for a next-gen PC rig. Hellooooo DDR2 for AMD64 ...

From what i'm reading, Wii is definitely the cheapest of the 3rd gen consoles, at $250. How much that is in £ is beyond me, but it's definitely cheap!

Lemur - get with the times. I've been there, got the yummy 64-bit AMD processor.

The PS3 and XBOX 360 don't seem to offer me anything I won't be able to get from the rig I plan to replace by current PC with in the summer.

The Wii, on the other hand, seems truly visionary, and is really innovating in a way the other next-gen consoles aren't. Add this to the fact that I'm a committed Nintendoid, and a Zelda game which may possibly be better than OOT, my favourite game of all time, is being released for the system, and I'm sold.

I know the AMD64s already exist. I'm waiting to see what life under AM2 (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2741) will be like ...

I'll buy the Xbox 360 to get my hands on Mass Effect. Man it will be a sweet game. :2thumbsup:

Sums it up for me. Most big names out on XBox360 and PS3 will be out on the PC at some point, and if not there are plenty of similar games. Wii could be rather interesting, if Nintendo get their act together this time and get more than just a handful of games released.

PS3, if any of them.

Probably won't even get that though.

That´s exactly what I´m doing, except that I don´t know how to finance this yet.:juggle2:

No consoles here. All my money goes into PC gaming computer upgrades (with the next major purchase likely to be a widescreen monitor... drool!). I'm mainly into strategy games and simulations like flight sims, space games, subs, etc., with an occasional FPS on the side. So I probably wouldn't ever get a console unless the computer game market dried up, and then only if I could get the type of games I like to play. Mario-type games and sports games don't interest me. But I'm an old fart, and didn't grow up with a console controller in my hand.

If I was going to get a console for some reason, I guess it would be the Wii (argh... that name), mainly just to try the controller. The 360 and PS3 don't look like much compared to a high-end PC gaming rig, so the Wii is the only one that would tempt me at all. I give Nintendo credit for at least trying something innovative beyond just sexier poly counts and shaders.

I'll get a battler of a PC for college soon, and maybe the Wii (depending on how much money I have) after it comes down. It seems to be the most interesting. PS3 is too much dough, while the 360 is now teh old.

The Wii is the only thing that can possibly carry games that I can't play already. Heck, I think MP3 and the new Wii version of Zelda are enough for me for a while! So long as the controls are as good as the pros say.

That being said, I had no interest in the PS2 or Xbox until I actually got some time with them. And now I have them both (PS2 is most played console right now by far).

I'll probably just upgrade my PC instead but if I had to choose from one of those I'd say the PS3.

PC all the way. You can't fly on consoles.

Consoles are only for playing old games like Bomberman while laying in bed.

PS3 most definately, X-Box 360 screwed up massively. They rushed out the games to get it out by christmas. I was very disappointed in Madden 06 for the 360. All it had was play now and a weak franchise mode. I wouldnt recommend getting a 360 untill the games start to get better. I think that in a few months they will figure it out and start to get better. I will say that the graphics are pretty darn good. I look forward to the release of the PS3 here in the next few months.

Windows Vista

My dad wants to get me an Xbox360 for some strange reason.. when it took me a while to persuade him to get my Xbox a few years ago. Now it's me not wanting it. Anyway, it's just a graphics upgrade and nothing special. Halo 3 is going to be just the same with a different storyline. If anything, Wii seems to be the most different, but whether different = good will take time to tell. So for now, it's TW for me.~:thumb:

None, I don't have any money :P

I can always invade my friends house when Halo 3 comes out. PS3...bleh, more of the same really. The Wii, obviously Nintendo have admitted defeat on the hardware front, but do you really want to play games with a TV remote control? To be honest, I'd feel like a prize prick swinging a tv remote around in the middle of my lounge playing some tennis game...

Truly innovitive? Has the control which will work well for some games but will cause many games to just screw up, I heard you can use a GC controller, which wasn't too great itself. Then you've got some other whistles that will attract the Nintendo die hards, but to be honest they would have bought the thing if it had as much power as a Sega Megadrive. For the everyday gamer, the only thing Nintendo can lure them with is the cheap price tag tbh.

Although I am an avid PC Gamer, I would want a console. I hope I can buy a PlayStation 3 for Christmas. :balloon2:

I'll first buy shares in the respective companies to the value of the consoles and in a decade or two I will buy the 5th generation consoles with dividends.

If I had enough money i would get the 360 or the Wii. I don't like the name "Wii" at all though.

Good luck making enough money to buy the PS3 before Christmas. Apparently the Deluxe version will be so expensive, only the five richest kings and queens in Europe can afford it.

Of the three, the wii is the only one likely to get my money. There's a slight chance I may pick up a 360 down the line if things improve for them big time, but just not there isn't any 'gotta have it' for that system. Nothing short of direct divine intervention will get me to buy a PS3.

Looks like the wii may be competitive in the graphical department as well, add some shadows and this looks pretty next gen to me.

I'm pretty sure those pics are touched up a tad, but the Wii is definitely going to be pushing some good looking games. Just look at this video of Mario Galaxy (http://media.revolution.ign.com/media/748/748588/vid_1505107.html).

To be honest, up until last Christmas I hadn't played any console games in nigh 5 or 6 years. Nintendo's recent offerings are what's really pulling me back in.

Wii for sure. Not only is Nintendo cheap, they're quality.

There is a shelf bolted to the wall in my TV room. It's where I put all my consoles, first with the N64, then with my PS2. Now, what with all the wires extending from consoles every which way, they tend to fall off every now and again. My N64 made that fall at least a half dozen times, and it's still with me to this day. The first time my PS2 made that fall, it was read-disk error for me.

I never bothered getting it fixed.

My original PS got defect after a year or so too. Something with the reader I believe. That's w<hat's really worrying about the PS price, not only is it friggin' expensive to get, but you'll probably have to replace it in two years time too.
