BKS & Beirut are proud (almost) to bring you The Frontroom Summer Babe Contest.

The ten winners who picked the right numbers will peruse the Babe Thread, look over the lovelies, linger over the lingerie, and chose the Top Ten Babes of all time. Judges have until midnight this Sunday.*

Once the Top Ten are chosen, a poll will be made and you the members will vote for the Ultimate Frontroom Summer Babe who will represent us at the United Nations and other sporting events. The poll should be up Monday night.

Prizes, really stupid ones, will go out to the winning judge and one lucky voting member.

Louis, we need an explanation:inquisitive:Teh pattern is: the human minding trying to come up with ten numbers from 1 to 50 that appear random. :book:

Now, there is an extensive psychology to that. The numbers people come up with, are in fact not random at all. They are chosen to avoid structure or repetition.

Few would come up with 1,2,3,4,5, etc. It appears unnatural, unrandom. Of course, the odds of ten really random numbers being a nice consecutive sequence are mathematically speaking as likely as any other sequence.
The same holds true for any other structure. Few would chose 10 numbers that all end with the same number, 2, 12, 22, 32 etc. Or double numbers only, or prime numbers, repetition or any other series that appears to have an underlying structure.

What you therefore have to look for, is for all possible traces of structure and then choose a number that doesn’t fit in.

I picked 33 after 50, 42, 17 where named correct. They feature the digits 0 1 2 5 7. Notice the absense of 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9. Notice that there are no double numbers yet either (11, 22, 33, 44). 66, 88 and 99 are not possible, numbers 1 and 2 are in already. Leaving 33. The odds for 33 unconsiously having come to Beirut's mind while he had one finger up his nose and the other tap-tap-tapping on the desk were thus very high.

(side note: I do not know the order in which they were picked. But that doesn’t matter. If 33 was the first number to have been picked, 17-42-50 would have been more likely to have been picked next)

That's clever. I've heard of that kind of stuff before, especially 7 being a popular "random" number. Though I've never tried it in practise, especially not with 2 digit numbers, and I had no idea it actually worked that well. :2thumbsup:

Anyway, damaged by knowledge about generating random numbers by using time, I never thought these numbers would be randomized by a human mind. The way to generate random numbers by using time is to take the rest from a division by the number of numbers you want the interval to be, i.e., if you want numbers from 1 to 50, you keep taking times in milliseconds generated by a stop watch and divide them by 50, then take the rest. I.e.:

99 / 50 = 1 rest 49, so the random number is 1
43 / 50 = 0 rest 43, so the random number is 43
12 / 50 = 0 rest 12, so the random number is 12
67 / 50 = 1 rest 17, so the random number is 17
etc.
