View Full Version : Trees
I have problem I never had in Vanilla RTW. Have you added trees cos they are way tighter now. My units get stuck behind them (some men of the unit)
and this causes the rest of the unit to keep on marching past their destinations (in formation) sometimes into the arms of the enemy. If a unit waiting to enter the battle gets stuck outside of battlefield the rest of the unit marches right across the map and out again on other side. Enemies routing/withdrawing can also get stuck and then I have to find them in order to not to lose the battle. Sometimes hard to find if they are stuck inside the trees.

Yep, and it's absolute HELL to fight a battle inside those trees anyway.
I try to never start a fight in the strategic map if it seems like there's a forest tile in the battle area, just like I avoid battles with reinforcements. :embarassed:
Doesn't that just look stupid some of the most faithfully recreated Roman troops in a computer game and some trees straight out of Lothlorien
Its probably accurate since people didn't abuse nature quite the way we do today.
The largest tree, not the tallest, is a Giant Sequoia located in Sequoia National Park in the southern Sierra Mountains of California. It is called The General Sherman. It is the largest living organism on Earth. It is about 275 feet tall and 36.5 feet in diameter. It is about 2,300 to 2,700 years old.
Now the trees abuse us instead...

Wow thats one big tree how many are there??
Still I seriously doubt trees that big could grow right next to each other let alone a whole forrest of them right next to each other think of how big the root system would have to be but I do admit I know very little on the subject.
Point being that choosing a faction with lots of forest is a pain in the ass now.
You could do a search if you really wanted to know, I've just heard about the one big giant tree in California, though there plenty out there. I know one locally is famous for something or other, though it just looks like a tree to me.

Yes actually there's a solution to the problem. I had this problem with RTR and the trees kept causing bugs. As a result, the game would crash in dense forest areas. Some people claim it's more "realistic" though there's a certain line between gameplay and realism. The vanilla trees are better because it's easier to deal with (Game mechanics I guess) while giant and heavily dense trees make anything impossible.
Attempt to acquire vanilla descr_grass, descr_vegetation.db and descr_vegetation.txt in the data folder.
With these, copy them as backup. Then overwrite the ones in EB and run the game, the trees should be back to vanilla.
Brilliant,:2thumbsup: thanks

there was a great tree-mod for RTR which decreases the size of the trees so that they look more realistic. but the best thing is, you can see something from above now, too. in vanilla and EB absolutely impossible ....
i guess that tree-mod for RTR should work with EB, too.

try it, and then you will even love battles in the forests :)

It is true, Trees in EB are too crowed. They have 3 tree trunks right next to eachother, amd that I don't think is right for there should be a "small space between them".
Now I gotta tell ya fellas......fighting in a forest or like I like to call it "FIGHTING IN DA' BUSHES" is quite fun. And it can be a Battle winner too. ESPECIALLY if you are a Gaul and you have to take on MIGHTY ROME with 1 full stack and 2/3 full stack Armies. Also, is "H" battle difficulty and you DON'T outnumber the enemy, its an even fight. Let me tell you, in the Bushes Gauls can kick ROMAN A$$!!!! :2thumbsup:
-your men can beat Hestatii, give a really good fight against Sammnites and Pricipes, and the Trearii Phalanx is disrupted in a BAD way. (you still need to outflack, but your center will definitely hold if not kick ass)
gotta luv them Bushes :thrasher:
