The trailer looked impressive. They actually showed large-scale armies, unlike Rome.

Anyone watched the series Rome ?

That was a pleasure to watch. (don't start me on historical accuracy, that's not my area of expertise).

Aye, Rome was good. Was one of those things where you find yourself tutting and rolling your eyes what with all the BS but at the same time unable to stop watching. Gah.. the BBC are a bunch of (fools-BKS) though, making us miss out on a few episodes. Not sure what to think of this Hannibal thing.. I guess we'll find out later.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!! The c-word is worse than anything any television provider can spew forth, except perhaps Channel 5 and ITV News...

But I might have mistakenly heard in the trailer that "Hannibal brought Rome to its knees". Now, I was under the impression that after the march through tha Alps, his army was a mere fraction of its original strength and he was subsequently defeated by the Romans...

They eventually defeated him about 15 years later, but only after he'd dished out some of the biggest defeats in their history with his motley crew of an army. They became so scared of him that they didn't dare fight him in open battle for years.

You can't fault the battle set pieces or military dress and costumes. Very good docu-drama and one of the best programs the BBC has put out in ages.

I enjoyed it.

I swear I saw Beirut in his Hastati outfit, but with an axe. :laugh4:

Joking aside, it was enjoyable, as the telly should be.

Solid, but I got bored. It's too painful seeing someone so nearly win, then lose.

Thought it was good.. the Gauls looked a bit like generic Barbarians though.

(Sorry for the language btw.)

According to my paper it's being repeated tonight (Monday) on BBC2 at 11:20. But although the illustration is from last night's drama-documentary with Alexander Siddig, it's only scheduled for 50 minutes, so I suspect it's the follow up documentary with Adrian Goldsworthy that they showed later on last night.

That was the best programme on Hannibal that I have seen. The follow-up was pretty good too, especially with appearances by reputable scholars such as Goldsworthy and Richard Miles, who interviewed me recently at Cambridge, nice chap.

Hopefully there are similar endeavours in the pipeline.
