I never thought I'd open a topic on this, but watching tv the other day (Have you seen the ukraininan cutie? :2thumbsup: ), I stumbled onto the preview program-namely the finnish group. And I was fairly impressed. I did some digging (the ukrainian cutie I'm so impressed with can actually sing too!) and apart from the hotness of the portuguese girls, there are a few acts worth watching. Ok, ok, I'll make a list:

Ukraine - Tina Karol - Show me your love
Denmark - Sidsel Ben Semmane - Twist of love
Finland - Lordi - Hard Rock Halleluja (honorary mention for costumes)

Still fairly easy on the ears (and HOT), there are the portuguese girls:
Nonstop - Coisas de nada
And another one worth mentioning is

Latvia - Cosmos - Ihear your heart (Crap song, kinda curious though)

Anyway. Anybody has any thoughts-insights on this international parody?

I love Eurovision. The music's usually complete rubbish, but Terry Wogan's mildly inebriated commentary on how much he hates the politics of the event (all the Balkan countries just voting for each other, for example) is hilarious.

And, really, I know its awfully unsophisticated to laugh at our European neighbours and their funny ways, but are those really Fez that Albania are wearing?

Music listening Rule #1:

- Even some scracthes on a piece of wood may have a listener. The concept "perception" is something that differs from any individual to another so I think that it's just not "appropriate" to call one "weird" due to his/her tastes. I really love the authenticity and drops of epic melodies in Hard Rock Hallelujah.

The song rocks indeed. :2thumbsup:

Watchman
05-21-2006, 17:38
I like "Monsterman" rather better, but being a bit dated that'd probably have been kinda stale to use in the show.

I wonder what exactly all the silly Finns who were convinced "these monsters and weirdoes" would ruin the country's image abroad and similar nonsense (which mainly suggested they didn't quite get the point) think now though. Some of the commentaries I've seen in various public forums were quite heated...

unbelievable!! how on earth can that horrible noise, produced by a few monsters from lord of the rings, ever be even called a song, let alone the best of europe...

Honestly, I thought it was one of the few songs with a decent structure. Most other songs were just repeat ad nauseum affairs, slow tear jerkers ("I know, let's play something in D minor !") or back street boy/Shakira copycats (come on, Russia ???).

Vocally I think Greece and Bosnia were the best, it's a bit of a shame Greece got so few points imho.

If people tend to vote for a style they like first, and then a particular song second... I assume that it would weight the votes towards a song that had no competition within its style group but otherwise has a large fanbase.

If there is only one Indian restaurant in town, it will be the most popular Indian restaurant in town too.

Lots of heavy/metal/death etc fans out there, no other choices to choose so they all vote the same and hence the winner is the Finns.
