Well, yeah. Got the game last weekend, but just got a chance to play a few hours yesterday. Great game, although the lack of a quick-save feature makes it unnecesarily repetitive when you can't spot your enemy and get killed once and again 10 feet from the next checkpoint. Another issue I have with this game is the absolute crap driving camera. I can understand that it needs to be controlled by the mouse if you are planning to shoot at stuff. But if you don't it should stay focused on the vehicle, and not on the trees on the roadside :furious3: .

Anyway, I'm now finishing up the Carrier mission, and I love the physics engine, lights, AI and great texture quality. I.e, everything except the 2 things I've mentioned.

Anyway, seeing as the game isn't very recent, I'm guessing there are people here who have played it before. Any tips, etc..

Tips? Have fun, explore, take your time.

There is one spot where you can take a hang glider and fly to the next island, or you can steal a boat, or you can swim, or a combination of all three. Great stuff. No other FPS like it.

For all the hype around HL2 & Doom3, Farcry came out 6months before, did nearly everything as well as or nearly so & did about 3 times as much that the other 2 came nowhere near meeting.
Greatest FPS ever in my opinion.

Not sure what you mean about the driving camera, just use the mouse to turn the view point where you want it to look.

I loved it... at first. Most of the first levels have this great free-roaming feel to them, with some great AI keeping things just at the right level of challenge. And it looks gorgeous. But then those mutants turn up, and it all becomes rather repetitive. I gave up somewhere halfway through, it just wasn't much fun anymore.

But the first parts of the game are pure class.

Best singleplayer FPS ever. As for tips, just do what Beirut said, take your time, explore (there's no set route of completing missions as long as you complete the set goals). Other than that enjoy!

...and once you've finished with the singleplayer go onto multiplayer as that's excellent aswell. :2thumbsup:

It was quite good game. I must admit I was kind of dissapointed by the hype of "freedom" in game. Enviorment really wasnt that free hype promised.

Good game tho, must try out for FPS likers.

Aliens were annoying. Just so spammy. An enemy that won't even die after several rocket launchers? Jumping guys that can kill you with one hit despite not reeeaallly hitting you on the pounce? Coulda used a little polish. Fighting the humans, however, was very fun.

I agree and to be honest I would of much prefered there to be only humans, but it was however a nice touch and a nasty suprise when first playing which I fear you may have ruined for SwordsMaster, (if he didn't already know that is). ~:)~;)

Didn't really mind it that much, I love a good scare. Excellent game.

I agree with most here. It was an excellent game, and when fighting the humans one of the best fps ever. But I personnally think the monsters ruined the game. Like Lehesu said they were too spammy and just got annoying after a while. I must say the intensity when fighting them was amazing especially those invisible ones. Heart-pounding action for sure.

Eh, underwhelming. Combat wasn't wonderful, and those apes sucked what fun there was right out of it. Beautiful game until it went into motion, then the draw-in and LOD skipping bugged me to no end. And some of the levels towards the end were total garbage. And whoever decided there shouldn't be a quicksave really needs to be disallowed from making games again ever.

I've played much much worse, but this is not a game I'll go back to.

I disagree, quiksave is a tension-killer. There is nothing more satisfying then just making it, whoever decided to implement quiksave in first person shooters in the first place should be flogged.

The monsters towards the end of the game spoiled what an amazing game Far Cry was. I don't mind the jumping monkey things too much, it's the bloody heavy rocket launching chaps that don't flinch when you unload 200 bullets into their head, then suddenly just die. There's about 2 million of them towards the end of the game -- or it feels like it. Actually the most annoying thing is the really bad and corny things the enemy grunts shout when they're coming after you. Sometimes you're stuck in the jungle unable to see them, fearing for them to out-manoeuvre you, only to hear one of them shout out from behind you, 'I'm going to shoot you in the head' and give away their position, so you just turn around and decapitate them with your Jackhammer.

Regarding the lack of quicksave - I think it's a potentially great idea, ruined by a poor checkpoint save implementation. If you happen to wander where one of the invisible checkpoints is - the game will save your progress.... once. On larger expansive levels, you can miss the checkpoints entirely, or end up using a checkpoint too early that is ideally placed for towards the end of the level, hence loads of frustrating back-tracking when you snuff it. I'd prefer saves were rewarded for exploration and killing. If you've done nothing, you don't need a save. If you've just killed 343 grunts with just a knife, then drove 16 miles across a cliff-face only to crash into a pine tree and get blown to pieces by one of those Rocket launching gits, then you should have been given a save earlier. Tis common sense. Whereas mindless and continual quicksave ruins the tension of the game somewhat. Playing Doom 3 I seem to spend more time pressing quicksave than I do actually shooting anything. But considering there's seldom much to shoot, it's perhaps not so surprising.
