Just watched sky news and they have said that this week so far 9500 jobs have been lost. Interesting this is not small companies but larger ones. The likes of Heinz etc....

don't worry, they'll all soon find government jobs as lesbian equality advisers for some tiny local govt. department or something I'm sure.

Soon Britain's only export will be government bureaucracy services. Maybe they could just have all their citizens administrate the EU or something.

Does this have something to do with the topic (i.e. are you contesting the numbers?) or is this just an arbitrary rant?

Yeah like last week or a couple weeks ago, this happend in Puerto Rico (I think). Everything just stopped. School was out a day, no one worked. They supposedly have no money or something, you'll have to look it up.
Anyway, tons of people in the numbers this high lost their jobs there.

Soon Britain's only export will be government bureaucracy services.
From the Empire where the Sun never sets and its exported government bureaucracies to the EU where the light of day never shines on the bureaucratic nonsense.
Well at least if the Brits takeover the services we will see a lot more Cricket and Rugby being played in the EU. And a side bonus for the US would be a larger proportion of friendly nations to them.
It would be funny if it wasn't so sadly true.

Fears are growing that Vauxhall will confirm 1,000 job cuts at its Ellesmere Port plant on Wednesday, after it emerged Gordon Brown may be visiting.
And this could be another 1000 to come tomorrow

I am going to have to SERIOUSLY reconsider my use of HP sauce if this goes ahead.
Does anyone know where Daddies sauce is made? I've always thought of it as a pale northern imitation of the real thing but if they carry on making it in Blighty I may have to switch my alleigance.
Still i see Worcester sauce will be made in Worcester so its not all bad.

Steak sauce seems to be the same thing over here. I was excited by a strange new condiment, I tried it, I recognised it. Like Snickers and Marathon used to be.

Yes but what they dont see is also that the worker will either get tax credits because they are low paid. Or it is a job done by the wife after the kids are home from school to increase the husbands wages as he paid low wages also.
I was in Birmingham last week at a medical company talking about some business and I went into the kitchen to have a drink and it happened to be coffee break. The amount of non-UK workiers in the kitchen amazed me. So many different languages and culture. All working on the shop floor for the minimum wage.

Nothing special ,it happens all the time , industries shut down or relocate every week .
Though it was not that long ago that the British TV news would have a daily slot showing how many thousands of jobs had been lost in Britain that day .

Nothing, as stated in the previous reply.
But I just think that the media has desided its time to change sides. So they are happier showing the bad side of whats going on.

Carmaker Vauxhall has confirmed 900 job cuts at its Ellesmere Port factory in Cheshire, warning the plant must further improve its productivity.
The announcement was made after Vauxhall management and GM officials met union leaders at the factory.
Derek Simpson, the boss of Amicus, said the decision was "another devastating blow to the car industry and UK manufacturing in general".
The government said it would do all it could to help staff find new jobs.
The 900 job cuts represent just under a third of the plant's overall 3,000-strong workforce.
So that another 900 jobs...

Unemployment at four-year record
The number of people out of work in the UK has risen to a four-year high, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The number of unemployed people rose to 1.59 million between January and March, up 44,000 over the quarter and 177,000 over the 12-month period.
That pushed the jobless rate up to 5.2% - the highest rate for four years - up from 5.1% in the previous three months.
The number of people on unemployment benefit also rose by 7,700 to 945,500.
The April increase in the claimant count meant that this narrower measure of unemployment has now risen for 13 of the last 14 months, the longest period of increases since the UK emerged from recession in 1992.
Job cuts
Meanwhile, the ONS reported that the number of manufacturing jobs was at its lowest level since records began in 1978, with a decline of 117,000, or 3.7%, to 3.06 million.
The news comes as workers at Ellesmere Port face mass redundancies, and a few weeks after the closure of Peugeot's Coventry factory in April.
But there was better news on the overall employment rate, which rose to 74.7%, the highest since July-September 2005, with 28.9 million people in work
The two indexes can move in parallel if people who were not previously seeking work, such as women with small children, return to the labour force.
And pay pressures were still moderate, with average earnings including bonuses rising by 4.2% in the three months to March, up 0.1%.
The Bank of England closely watches this index, and has often argued that any increase in wages above 4.5% could be
So we only have 3.06 million people producing (3.47%) :furious3:

and the stories keep coming....
NHS Direct is proposing to cut hundreds of jobs and close over a fifth of its call centres to help balance the books.
The nurse-led telephone and internet advice service for England is aiming to save £15m through the measures.
It is proposing to close 12 of its smaller call centres, while expanding others, and cutting nearly 800 posts.
Staff will be consulted over the next three months, but unions said the measures were short-sighted and would put strain on other parts of the NHS.
NHS Direct was set up in 1997 to help give medical advice to people on how to deal with symptoms and to direct them to the correct place in the event of an emergency. It now deals with 25,000 calls a day.
What I find amazing is why is this not front line news.
