View Full Version : Game Difficulty Effect
What exactly does the game difficulty change in custom battles?
Do they only add more brains to the AI, or does it have improved morale or so on higher levels?
If there is one, please tell me, which of the levels makes neither the AI or me have an advantage..
Normal difficulty is equal on both sides. Neither side gets any bonuses. With hard and very hard the computer gets bonuses to attack and morale and maybe some other things too. On easy, you get the bonuses.

Battle difficulty adds morale bonuses to you on easy, none to either side on medium, and bonuses to the AI on hard and very hard.
Campaign difficulty on easy gives income penalties to the AI, does nothing on medium and gives bonuses on hard and very hard to the AI income.
I think that's all.

The AI is far more aggressive in the VH Campaign. The rebels also attack you more frequently and even besiege settlements commonly.
You earn less cash in VH as well, and start off with less.

With Hard campaign, how much added difficulty is there over normal, and how noticeable is it? Where does the AI get assistance?

I think it's +4 to attack on hard and +7 to attack on very hard for the computer. I think they also get better morale and you get penalties to your morale. So a cavalry charge might not rout them and your units will rout a lot faster at the first sign of the battle swaying. Harder difficulties just gives bonuses to the computer and penalties to you. It doesn't make the AI any better, something that everyone desires in RTW.
The +4 and +7 modifiers are for the battle difficulty.
The campaign difficulty basically gives the AI more. I think VH campaigns gives the AI 10000 gold per turn, so they can often repeatedly throw full stacks at you.
Personally, I like medium battles - I like historical unit match-ups - but go for the VH campaign to have a bigger challenge. I don't like outnumbering the AI - it's just not fair on the poor thing.

Only pitting the AI against itself is fair, really. anyone with a brain, no, half a brain, can destroy the AI.

If you feel like that then get online for a real challenge and stop playing the stupid AI...:juggle2:

Maybe they'll put multiplayer campaigns in MTW2.
