reminds me a lot of Thief:the metal age.

Screenshots look a bit too vibrant and clear in my opinion. That's where I really like the unrelenting dark and graininess of the Silent Hill games. They're unsettling from the start. Still, I suppose Bioshock doesn't fall directly into the horror genre, whereas perhaps System Shock 2 did, although I can't be bothered to read the preview to find out exactly what it's all about.

...I can't be bothered to read the preview to find out exactly what it's all about.

It's a good preview - very informative and the game sounds very interesting. The core gameplay sounds just like SS2, but the setting is different and intriguing. Just reading some of the ideas - the "little sisters" harvesting dead bodies for genetic material - gets my imagination going. I particularly like the fact that most of the "bad guys" the writer saw did not attack on the spot and indeed the idea that the player may want to protect the "little sisters". It all sounds intriguing. Bioshock is probably the forthcoming game I am most interested in right now (which is saying something, given that we have M2TW, NWN2, Mark of Chaos, Fallout 3 etc on the horizon).

If you guys played system shock (1/2) you'll absolutely love it.

The AI will be pretty awesome in this one becuase they will have personalities, and its not "SHOOT EVERYTHING THAT MOVES" type of game.

6 page interview, a pretty interesting read for anyone interested in this game.

Ya that is just sick. I like it that they don't attack you, there is just something wrong with it. The setting sounds great as well, nothing is more fascinating then a place where people used to live, with evidence of people just going about their life untill, well we will see. I await not so patiently.

I hadn't seen a "little sister" before, so I was interested to view that screen shot. I was expecting something a little more over the top like the SS2 cyber-wives, but sometimes less is more, I guess.

Those screenshots look impressive but I'll wait until it's release before jumping to conclusions.

I never played any of the System Shocks either so I am a little uninformed.

Yeah, she was a bit young to, but I suspect that being forced to kill those little sisters to survive makes it freakier if they're humane.

Any idea why some of those screenshots are blurry on some places?

The second one is abandonware, can't post link here because it is still technically not legal, pm me if interested. It is one of the best games ever made, graphics aren't up to todays standards but the sound is still unsurpassed, even after all these years nobody has come up with a more immersive audio-enviroment. Most fans will agree that good sound>good graphics.

Absolutely, it's hard to beat the thrill of hiding behind a corner with your trusy spanner, listening to a hybrid breathing heavily close by and moaning "You cannot hide forever". And the game even teaches you to fear the sound of grunts and cries of tiny monkeys terrify you. I mean that is quite an achievement - how can a grown man be scared of a tiny monkey? And don't get me started on the mechanical whirring and clanking of cybermidwives as they sing sweetly "little ones need lots of meat to grow big and strong". Shudder.

The voice acting and dialogue (in audiologs) is also extremely good. It's hard to believe they can sketch out such vivid characters in so few lines. Politto, Delacroix, Bronson, Diego, Korenshkin etc. they are all wonderfully realised.

I actually like the graphics and think they hold up even today. The good thing is that it is first person and there are virtually no people, so you don't notice how crude the graphics are. I only realised the graphics were limited when I saw my reflection. But mostly you seen clinically clean - well, apart from the blood splatters - spaceship interiors - Star Trek style - and they seem fine. And the freaks you fight are supposed to look like freaks, so any crudity in their depiction is not so obvious. There was a mod to reskin the monsters to be more up to todays graphical standards, but I actually found the originals much more scarey.

I like the graphics as well, it may be low poly but it looks like you can actually touch the walls, it just looks solid.

God this pathetic human of meat and bone can rave about this game forever.

Yep the sound effects are great, only problem is that it doesn't seem to come as sorround so it's hard to determine from what direction the enemy comes from.

It does make even more scary, but at the same time it's annoying (Repeat after me: The monkey comes from the right, don't mind the sound from the left, you saw the monkey, he saw you, he's alone, there's no respawn from the left, there's no respawn from the left, don't check to the left as the monkey on the right can then hit you when he comes around the corner, why are you taking so long monkey? Repeat everything in your mind three times before that blasted monkey shows up).

It could possibly be fixable on the sound options though, haven't thought about it before.
Only computer that SS2 works on is one that I've got limit access to, so I haven't played that far, only been formally greeted by SHODAN. ~;p

Edit: Anyones recognize where that screeshot was taken? I don't, but I suspect I've passed that area.

Medical/Science deck, right after you get out of the breached area in the very beginning.

And I'm definately getting BioShock ... if it's half of SS2, I'll still love it.

I'm not sure, but I think it is the passage on this map just above the red 2 (bottom centre).

Basically, walk past the main elevator on your right towards the chemical storage, but hang right before you get there. And don't forget to take out the camera first.

Could explain why I didn't get a full recognition of it. It did feel like Medical/Science deck, but at that point I hadn't figured out that cameras were uhm destroyable. Was actually surpriced when I shot my first camera and the alarm didn't go off (I was thinking that it was better to get the alarm on once instead of everytime I passed one of those blasted cameras ~;p ).

This looks way cool, and I think I'll give SS a try, to get a sample of that incredible sound/atmosphere myself...
