Just a question/comment. I understand why the "barbarians" factions dont have access to the paved road improvement. But why never giving them the possibility to build one ? Maybe at the cities upper level(24k +) ? Peoples like the Gauls werent dumb, they were in advance in certain field. Personnaly that's my major turn off about the "barbarians" factions. Eventually it turn me down to always have to travel on dirt road. Why not allowing some Barbarians faction to build paved road when they turn really advanced ? It would help the game play and wouldnt be too un-historical.

Comments ?

I'm not in the team so don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure paved roads are in the works for a lot more factions than have them now, including most eastern factions and the gallic barbarian tribes.

We really needed a better hard-coded engine.

If you conquer a civilized region with a barbarian faction, and hold it for decades, it's not a raid, it's a conquest, there's no reason why, with time, you wouldn't be able to do what they do, as long as you copy the system necessary to do what they did.

I guess the question is, does the barbarian leadership see it as an advantage to copy the model they defeated?

Beat you to it. Yesterday I submitted new revisions to that level of the roads complex:

paved_roads requires factions { romans_brutii, egypt, numidia, thrace, greek_cities, macedon, romans_julii, seleucid, parthia, romans_scipii, carthage, } or factions { gauls, scythia, } and building_present_min_level market forum

You may notice romans_scipii (Hayasdan), carthage (Pontus), gauls (Aedui) and scythia (Arverni) new to that list.

-------------------------
We will only give buildings to factions that did build them themselves during our game's time period. Otherwise we'd have to have an almost infinite (ok, exaggerating) number of possibilities: taverns for Ptolemies, steam tents for Romans, aqueducts for the sarmatians, gymnasia for the Iberians, etc., etc.
