I have noticed strange thing in my current Italian campaign. The capital city/province - if I may call so the place where my new king appears after the death of his predecessor - changed from Venice to Constantinople.

It happened quite early on, soon after the capture of C.

I have not noticed such change in my previous campaigns (this my first time with Italians). It is not a problem, just wonder if anyone could explain that.

I play vanilla MTW, Italy, high period on hard.

I believe your king will appear in whatever province has the most buildings. Can't remember if it also requires a royal building in the province or not.

Just the most buildings. I will build first levels of everything in a coastal trading iron province to get the capital there, and give my king/princes the extra armor/weapon upgrades without paying for the upgrades.

mfberg is right its which province has the most buildings go look at your game if you are still playing it and I'm sure that C will have more buildings then Venice.

yeah that happened to me once. I was playing as the byzantines and my emperor popped up in Rome. I thought he'd gone back to the motherland or something:2thumbsup:

Yea, is the biggest number of buildings. Provided they don't transfer hands too much, Venice and Constantinople are often, my capitals which is fine with me.

Yes, it's an odd part of the game. In Napoleonic: Total War, in my Prussian campaign, the English had Denmark as their capital. :inquisitive:

It can be a pain - once my new English King poped up in Constantinopole and due to a break in the sea/ fleet link, a lot of the homelands went into rebellion.
Definately 1 to watch out for.:2thumbsup:

I had my Turkish sultan once appear in Sicily. And he was cut off as well, so the only way to get my sultan back to Turkey was to build up Rum quickly and wait for the sultan to die.

Thank you all for answers. The C has got most buildings, indeed.

It seems to be a important strategic point to be taken into account (the possibility of rebellions after cutting the ship line, etc.).

Fortunately for me, the solid land connection exists in my game at this time (cca 1330). However, if I would have known this point earlier, I would attack Hungary soon to give me land connection with Constantinople ASAP.
