View Full Version : Crusader's units in the XL Mod
I just installed the XL mod recently, and today I was trying to play as the crusaders in XL Late but was frustrated. Why can they not create Chivalric Knights? They can build fuedal...once they have the upgrades they just can't build Chivynites and I don't know why...
Also, do the Crusaders have any Nationalised units? Like...crusading troops?
Help?
Thanks!
And since there's no edit button... :inquisitive:
The Knights Hospitaller have nationalised crusading troops, at least foot troops IIRC, so I was just in the dark as to why there'd be the difference.

Welcome to the Org, Ronnec! ~
I believe the Crusaders cannot train Chivalric Knights because they get Templars instead. As for "national" troops, that is comprised of the Templars and Order Foot Soldiers (possibly Fanatics as well, but it's been a long time since I played the Crusaders in XL). Aside from that, however, they get the standard units available to all Catholic factions.

How is that different from what the Crusaders have? :inquisitive:
I meant Knights Templar as well...I must be doing something wrong. *Sigh*
I'm livin' on 1 hour of sleep...I was up all night playing as the Swiss...And you know how THAT can be.
Well my memories are somewhat fuzzy, but I seem to recall that training Templars first requires some of the higher-level structures--structures you don't have right away when you start the game. (I want to say Templars need a Master Horsebreeder and Baronial Estate, but don't quote me on that.) One thing to keep in mind is that the 1-2 units of Templars you get in beginning are somewhat comparable to Royal Knights in unmodded MTW/VI--in the sense that you can't necessarily *train* those types of units right away, even though you start out with them. Is that what you were asking?

Actually, I haven't yet had the pleasure of trying them out. By most accounts, however, they're bloody hard to win with, if only becuase it's difficult to successfully expand. I wish you luck! :2thumbsup:
