I am playing the English, early XL mod.

I own the british isles and have taken over all of the former almohad holdings in africa. I have most of the russian baltic provinces as well stretching down to the black sea, and most of france.

Egypt has taken all of the middle east (except my holdings) turkey, the byz empire, and is on my southern flank in the balkans (I own down to Kiev). The Danes have taken most of central Europe crusing the HRE, while sweden, poland, genoa, and the papacy round out whats left (maybe I missed someone but not much).

So of course I am waiting for the mongols to appear while firming up my russian lands, they appear in Khazar and since sweden owns Novgorood, and moscow, and the egyptians own the rest (former cuman lands on the black sea) I anticipate one being attacked.

Sadly the mongols are just sitting in Khazar, heck ryzan is rebel held and they arent attacking. Now Sweden is the lesser of the two powers (egypt) so I would assume an attack into Moscow would be the prudent course.

Nothing for 6 turns now. Everyone is holding thier breath (it seems). I have heard of this happening before (where the AI dosent move) but havent seen it in my own expirence.

So when can I expect them to move? I had anticipated a massive assault by the Mongols that would counter balance my game and make it last longer, not having them do so would eliminate the challenge.

any advice/expirences?

Sadly, that's the MTW Golden Horde for you, nowhere near the challenge they should present. It is also a little element of the AI deficiencies, I bet they would have attacked by now if your territory bordered theirs

Well that does sound strange Odin, though I can't say i've experienced it myself.

In my games the AI led golden horde usually expands rapidly at first, then when it has overextended itself, lost all it's money, they slowly diminishuntil their leader ultimatly dies at the hands of an assassin ( that really does happen alot ).

But as said, they don't usually sit there doing nothing, even when I do not border their provinces.

You and I have had similar expirences. The horde never sits still in my expirences (save this one). You know its almost killed the game for me, I was counting on them to knock the hell out of the egyptians.

Tonight as time permits I can play a few hours, lets see if anything shakes out.
