Hey,
I have some money saved up, and I have to decide If I should get the Xbox 360 or wait for the PS3.

Major factors are:

* Games
* Graphics
* Online play

A plus for 360 is Halo, which Ive only played at my friends house, but its awesome, and the new one looks good too. One of my biggest concerns is graphics. Will the PS3 easily surpass 360? Or will they be equal in graphics?

What do you guys think I should get?

Any help appreciated

Thanks,
Hiji

Wait for both PS3 and Xmas... hopefully PS3 lands before Xmas.

Once you have PS3 in shops you have two benefits. Comparison of product and competition dropping the price of the machines.

I'd probably go for the 360. Given the all the problems the PS3 seems to be having, the lack of a strong game lineup for its launch, and the fact that it's even more ridiculously expensive than the other consoles, I would steer clear of that beast.

Why? We pretty much already know where the PS3 is going to stand at launch, and if he ends up buying a 360 he will have wasted 6 months he could have spent playing videogames.

Hmmmm

Thanks for the responses guys, Im leaning towards the 360. I have a ps2 currently, and I find that there are many more games on the xbox that interest me more.

Pretty big statement. Got to remember that Xbox not making much penetration into the PS and Nintendo core market, meaning that they have the luxuary of time. PS2 has been around a lot longer then XBOX, so I wouldn't bet that the 360 is going to have a longer life then PS3

Wait, what? Explain what that has to do with him buying one or the other.

Hey,
I have some money saved up, and I have to decide If I should get the Xbox 360 or wait for the PS3.

Major factors are:

* Games
Well the PS3 will have support from all Japanese developers and all North american and European developers. The Xbox won't have support from all Japanese developers right away (if ever). So real niche/artsy titles like Shadow of the colossus or Mister misquito won't ever show up on the 360. And there is a chance that companies like Capcom will create totally different games for each console (like Devil may cry for the 360). Also the 360 will probably never be able to play the whole Xbox back catalouge. This is simply because the Xbox uses an Nvidia GPU and the 360 uses an ATI.

* Graphics
They will be about even. Although the PS3 might have a slight edge. But it won't be the 2x difference in system power that existed between the PS2 and Xbox.

* Online play
The 360 has a free silver level and a pay gold level of live. The silver will let you down load updates for games mini games for the arcade and software/firmware updates for the console. To play online you gotta pay though. However 1 year for $59.99 is better than what WoW gives you. Sony claims that they will set up some kind of online service this time around. But that's about all they have said.

Hopefully PS3 can inovate in games, because this is it for graphics. Seeing as how I bought the PS2 for the games, I'm gonna trust that Sony grabs the best, and so I choose the PS3.

Wait, what? Explain what that has to do with him buying one or the other.

Simple the PS3 will have a larger quality developer base, a larger hardcore fanbase, better hardware (although blue ray will either vault it into the stratosphere or be an albatros around the neck) and in general a better supported range of games.

Worst case scenario he waits 6 months and gets to choose the best system. If he chooses 360 it will be if anything cheaper as MS heads to undermine PS3's market penertration.

They said it was free, and that's all I need to hear ~:)

I bet you fifty bucks that by 2008 most developers will have switched over to the 360 once they realize nobody wants to play on a system that costs 600 dollars, with Japanese developers alternating between the Wii and the 360. I absolutely guarantee it.

Hell, I'll go even further and wager that Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Quest IX are developed for the Wii.

What I worry about with the PS3 is the cost and quantity/quality of the games. The PS3 has the best hardware, that's pretty much a given, but with better hardware come higher development costs, which leads to higher pricing and less risk taking from the developers part.

Of course, I find the pricing of the PS3 outrageous too. And I'm pretty disappointed that Sony is ripping of Nintendo *again*.

I'd advise you to wait for at least a year after its release, then it will be obvious if the console is getting some decent games and support from developers. Of course, it's a long wait, but the PS2 is still getting great games (or so I've been told, I don't own one). The 360 doesn't seem to have any must have games yet, but then I don't think the Xbox itself has many either, so it's probably a matter of taste. *I* wouldn't go for a 360 right now.

EDIT: and i really miss a "Go for the Wii" and a Gah option here

As much as it pains me to say, I'd say go with the 360. After the past couple of years with the way Sony treats it's paying customers, I've got a personal boycott going.

Wait for the PS3.

Buy two and sell one for loads of money. People are so silly, they have to have it right away. Loads of money to be made.

I will prob get some shares in Sony first and then when they have gone up, sell them to help finance my cheaper PS3, prob three months after its out.

I've already got a 360. But with my game rotation being in the PC phase I'm not using it much right now. But once I get a 32" LCD Samsung HDTV I'll be using it again. :2thumbsup:

PS3 will have higher resolution, fun if you have a good tv. No way I am going to pay 600 euro for a console though, you can buy a good pc for that amount of money.

I bought a 360 in Feburary. It was my first ever console. I have been a PC gamer since Microprose F19...

I bought the 360 because 1. I now have friends who are into consoles and theywhere getting it. 2. Live in the US for a while means I have picked up a big ass sexy LCD HDTV. 3. For the first time here was a console that was not going to be out of date the day it was released compare to PC tech...

While I still fully intend to keep up my PC gaming I have found the 360 to be a lot of fun and the visuals of the best games are comparable to the PC. The (wireless) controller is real nice if a little to tempting to aunch across the room when a game gets really fustrating ...

I have it linked up to my wireless network so it is always online and I have linked it to my PC so a can play music and see pictures stored on there (you need Windows Media Centre on your PC to be able to stream videos).

I can rip CDs to it, download free demos and movie trailers to it and plug my IPod into it too listen to my favourity tunes while playing... (PGR3 to the sound track of Days of Thunder, oh yeah... )

You can message your friendles and setup chat rooms with voice (and video soon I believe)...

Then there are the games and to be honest they are a mixed bag... Some are fantastic namely Ghost Recon, PGR3, DOA4, Call of Duty 2 (identical to the PC version at max settings), and the holy of holies.... Oblivion....

Others are still fun but seem a bit like XBox ports with better textures... Perfect Dark Zero, The Outfit....

The sports games are good so far and a friend has just got the Rockstar Table Tennis game and is raving about how good it looks and plays and how seemless and fun the online play is...

Add to the fact the with Windows Vista coming along and XBox Live blending into Anywhere Live so you will (I think) be able to play you PC games online with your same gamer tag and play online against PC gamers and 360 gamers in the same game seemlessly in the future it is all good...

I am not PS3 naysayer, it may end up being the best with the best games and unlike BetaMax, Blu-Ray might take off. Worst case senario is that I end up with two games consoles next to each other... But I think the reality will be that the the next gen consoles will be much the same and and the games that play on all of them withh look and play pretty much identical on all of them...

360 is here now, it works, it has games and lots of nifty features and it looks great on my 40" Sony LCD HDTV...

What about the WII? At least it's going to be something different, with the motion sensing technology. Personally I'll wait till their all out, then decide which to get or to stick with the PC.

Got to go with the PS3, the 360 hasnt impressed me. They screwed up badly and tried to rush the games out. Madden 06 screwed up horribely. The game was so incomplete. It only had play now and horrible Franchise mode. So ill stick it out and wait for the PS3.

I think it's pretty much a given that he's going to get a Wii in addition to one of the other two. He does, after all, have a soul.

Xbox360 no doubt.

The ps3 seems to have roughly the same graphics - even with HD. Nothing more special than the Xbox

But what is your reason for choosing the X-Box 360, if you say they are the same, how can you say that you will no doubt get the 360.

I thought the 360 flopped in Japan even worse than the first Xbox....

It did, but you have to consider that foreign markets make up a significant portion of income for a lot of japanese developers, ie Square Enix, Capcom, Konami et al.

Go 360 now.

Developers - even Japanese developers - spend their money on making games for systems with an installed user base. Waiting for the PS3 because it will have games is a self fufilling prophecy at best. At worst, it's 6 months waiting, 200 bucks more for a system that might have squat for games because sony is more concerned with you taking their side in the HD format wars then they are about games.

I'd wait for Ps3 to come out and then decide which you want. If you want to be safe (though it is a long time, not that it mattersif you're really busy) wait 4 or 5 months until newer versions with fewer kinks come out.

I won't be getting either - just same old stuff, slightly better graphics. Only console that shows any sign of innovation and fun is the Wii, and Sony being the unimaginative gits they are did away with the banana controller and stole the motion sensor off the Wii controller.

Wii FTW!

Question about the 360:

Can I play Xbox games on it, such has Halo 1 and 2.

Is there two different versions for HD and non HD, and If I buy a HD "version", can I still play it on a regular T.V.?

You can play some xbox games on it, and only if you have the harddrive. There is no reason to sell your old xbox.

I dont have an Xbox, I still have a ps2. I always wanted to play Halo, and just wanted to be sure I would be able to play it on the 360. Anyone know which games will be supported? Im guessing Halo will, but I want to be sure.

Same here. Though it's tempting to get a console, by that time I'm out of home and no way I'll have enough cash for a console and a decent PC; the latter will be far more useful for me when studying.

get the xbox 360, it has a nice line-up of games.

Not only is the PS3 expensive as hell, but sony will only ship a million units so good luck finding one. Also MGS4 is the only game thats interesting, and seeing the trailer, it most probably will be released 2008 (it shows at the end 2006, then it scribbles it to 8 then back to 7, if thats any indication, no way will kojima get this game in time for 2007).

On a side note: Assassin's Creed is more than likely comming to the 360 too. So all the PS3 has going for it now (as far as confirmed games are concerned) are MGS and FF. :oops:

If money was no object, I would go for both! But as it stands I cannot help but think the 360 is going to have the superior games (which is what it is all about) for at least a year. And with the (to my mind) immient price drop this Christmas to kill the PS3 at birth, I think Sony has a lot of work to do.

Which I really hate to say since I REALLY don't like Microsoft, and I'm not impressed with the games released yet for the 360. But! The games that are coming are very impressive. Tops on my list is Bioshock and Too Human.

However, I am still very happy with the current generation. Okami and FF XII for example.
