Not happened to me before. Do you use Internet Explorer?

They are there but Firefox blocks them.

The site needs money to be kept up, and ads provide that money.

DL a pop-up-blocker to solve the problem ~:thumb:

Some of the popups are trojans according to the antivirus software warnings I get.

Just use FireFox, you get no pop-ups at all. And combined with Norton Internet Security you'll never see another pop up again at any site.

I really don't think that my browser is the problem. It's the site. loading pages is sooo slow I sit on a 24Mb pipeline and it takes up to a minute sometimes to load a page

I use Firefox, and I also use a lovely seconday script-blocking program called Spywareblaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html). Despite these prophylactics, I get pop-ups in the Org from time to time. Quite irritating.

They do randomly pop up sometimes, somehow. Quite annoying. The most I've ever had was in the middle of an arcade game, when a whole horde of around four pop-ups attacked. Luckily, it was a clicking game, so I was back on the correct window quite quickly. :2thumbsup:

Spywareblaster is superb. :2thumbsup:

You could also try Adaware (http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/) and Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/) in conjunction with Spywareblaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) and Firefox. (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/)

AVG (http://free.grisoft.com/) is a good free anti-virus program.

If this hadn't been mentioned, I'd have no idea there were popups here. I don't even have a pop-up blocker.

Yea, this is quite annoying. I keep getting a pop-up for some freemoney thing everytime a move around on the site. I have MSN and went into the pop up blocker thing and clicked block all, but still the same pop up pops up at everything i go to on this site and this is the only site that it happens to me on.

I've received pop-ups here now for a long while, can't really remember when it started, but it has been round for quite some time. I too use Mozilla Firefox, but the pop-ups that are generated here seem to occassionally override the built-in pop-up blocker that Firefox provides. This is even with customly selected high security settings in the Mozilla tools / options tabs.

Another couple of places I tend to find pop-ups galore are @ Rapidshare & Megaupload (just before you click to download a file), and also Imageshack, where you get random pop-ups every now and then once you view an image.

Perhaps tracking cookies are involved with the pop-up situation?

i dont think so

i have an up to the minute virus scanner running at all time,
and i am here several times a day, for 2 to 3 hours at a time,
never, ever see a virus,

my account has NO special privileges when it comes to the popups because
WE dont control or own them,
the host does (and the host gets all the cash too - thats how they pay for the Org to have so much space on THREE servers and use so much bandwidth),

the script they demand we put on every page makes no distinction between members and staff.

also i dont have a popup stopper running and i i get very few popups
(and i am using IE browser)

but PLEASE if someone spots one asking for user name and password,
(something to do with bradford BBS???)
PLEASE get a screenshot for me,
that is one that is definately a NoNo and i want to ask the host to kill it.

as for virus hidden in the popups? - no.
The hosts would spot them when they surfed one of the sites - (the UGO network is huge),
AND there would be thousands of users from hundreds of website hosted by UGO screaming about them.

the packed.Win32.tibs trojan

information about THAT virus (http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojtibsar.html)
most likely you have that virus ON YOUR SYSTEM
and it is trying to sneak off and download the rest of itself whenever a popup opens (possibly hoping you wont notice the extra traffic while you are reading/killing the popup)

I have only today started to get these two pop-ups every time I visit a different page in the .Org. Annoying but harmless. Didn't get them yesterday or any other day IIRC. Just started today.

Edit- and now they are gone. No longer popping up
