Well the world hasn't changed too much. Don't these barbarians know they could have almost everything they want if they protested peacefully? The way to fight the West is by playing on their emotions, not targeting civilians and chanting: "Death to [fill in the blank]". The poor IDF wouldn't know what to do if the Palestinians stopped shooting at them. They'd probably throw up their arms and go home. I don't remember which Tom Clancy book it was but it had a good illustration of what could happen if they adopted a Ghandi/MLK Jr. style of protest.

Do you mean 100s of thousands slaughtered and millions ethnically cleansed followed by war , terrorism , more war , more terrorism , civil war , a bit more terrorism and a nuclear standoff ? Or do you mean getting shot on a balcony because of a dream ?~;)
Come to think of it , Ghandi got murdered as well didn't he .

That was "The Sum of All Fears", where the climax of the story was a nuke being set off in Denver during the Superbowl.

Hey who changed the thread title ?

I did, as it was so vague you would think that Anna Nicole Smith had posted the title.

Sadly I think it will end badly for Mr Abbas. The radicals on both sides don't want peace.

Hey , it had a link to a really reliable news source and everything .:laugh4:

How can it end badly for Abbas or the Palestinian radicals ?
The 18 points put forward by Hamas and Fatah members amounts to a de-facto destruction of the current State of Israel , Isreal will never accept a peace plan on these lines , and in comparison to Hamas earlier cease fire proposals it actually calls for violence against the occupation .

.
Because they'll kill him perhaps. That would be par for the course in that region of the world.

Your seeming to forget what happened to a Israeli PM who advocated something along the same lines. History has a very bad habit of repeating itself in the Middle-East especially where it concerns the Israeli-Palenstine issue

Do I have to spell it in greater detail out for you,?

Abbas was a great band, and I really hate for some crazy terrorists to kill them because they don't want Joe Palestine to have liberty. Sometimes life is so unfair, its like everyday is a Waterloo

omg, Anna Nicole Smith is an org-iast ??! ~ any pics ?!?

sorry - I couldn't help it. ~D

As penance, I actually read the article. ~;p
I don't think they'll kill him, I am not even sure that referendum will happen at all. 10 days is a long time, 40 days is even longer... lots of things can happen, plenty of time for various things to occur to change one's mind/stance...
It's not inconceivable that he is allowed or, whatever, encouraged, to make statements like this - to appease some foreign powers, or to stir things up, depending on who might be pulling the strings.
Of course I'm mostly talking out of my ***, I don't have any facts, but hey, I'm sure that in most such situations we only get a glimpse of a tiny teeny bit of the top of the iceberg, and miss a lot of the backstage play.

You may have to Red , as the only way some Palestinian nutter might chose to shoot Abbas over putting these proposals forward with a threat of a referendum might be someone who had either not read the Hamas/Fatah proposals or someone who had only read the wesern media spin on the "ultimatum" .
You have read them havn't you Red ?
I thought that you thought that UN resolutions meant something , or that the laws concerning the conduct of war should be followed ? Perhaps I was wrong .~;)
