View Full Version : My ships wont attack!!!!!!!
This has got to be a damn bug. I place my ships to attack and they get the attack icon but come the following turn nothing happens.I also have a good feeling that it only happens in certain sea regions. How can I fix tis?????????

It might be that your enemies ships are faster and simply escape before your ships can catch them. Try bringing one or two faster ships and make them attack on their own and have your heavy duty ships attack as well. The small ships will catch the quick little things and the heavy ones will be able to engage. What is probably happening is that the ship your attacking excapes the sea way and the Ai replaces it, making it looking like the ship never moved. Next time look at the stats of all the ships.
Yeah NodachiSam is most likely right its probably just the ships moving out before your ships can attack

This cant be wats happening cos I'm attacking with a mixed fleet and the enemy ship remains in the sea region.
When attacking, make sure you separate your fleet and have each ship attack your enemy individually. If you're just attacking with the whole stack, the enemy's ship can still get away.

It can still get away because you have but one chance (if you attack with one group) + the fleet moves at the speed of the slowest ship. Result not only do you have only 1 chance of catching the enemy ship, it is also very small as the speed of your fleet is probably slower.

I got confused by the 'non-attacking' ships thing too, but it is as NodachiSam wrote - the enemy is faster than your fleet. Follow the advice given about dropping a fast ship on the enemy first, then your fleet, and the baddies will sink without trace.

It is quite likely that the A.I. is retreating one fleet and inserting another to keep you from gaining sea superiority in this area. Using mixed fleets won't help against this: you need fast fleets to catch his ships. The risk is that the fast ships are too weak and will get sunk one by one, so I would create two fleets: one slow and one fast and first order the slow and then the fast to attack. Even if the fleet managed to defeat the fast one, the slow one will probably defeat them.
I've seen no evidence so far that proves that grouping ships has any benefit. It is possible that there is some benefit to stacking the lower command ships under a higher one, but I haven't seen it. I tend to break my ships into individuals and attack seperately as you would with assassins. about 2 or 3 faster ships and a few more heavier ones. The Dromon is faster than the Barque or Dhow anyway so you may still not catch it, but sending more individual faster ships against it increases the chances of stopping it.

What I do when seizing the seas and to minimize losses:
1. Make sure that my ships outnumber the enemy (preferrably in better in quality as well)
2. I break up the fleet into stacks of homogenous ships (one type of ship in one stack) AND make sure that each stack outnumbers enemy ships.
3. Attack with all I have.
just a question wot is the al cane crusade mod you have there bretwalda for witch total war is it ???

I never thought that naval battles are so complex. I always put all ships in one stuck and then attack. And I never know why some ships always escape.
Thanks everybody.
