The Early Rome Total War Mod. Official Preview.
https://img92.imageshack.us/img92/8892/idunno0wh7ey.png
Early Rome Total War (ERTW) is a modification about the beginning of Rome, before the Roman Empire and before the Roman Republic. It will concentrate on the Italian peninsula. This mod. will be for Barbarian Invasion v.1.6. ERTW will feature many new factions, the only factions you may be familiar with are the Romans, Carthaginians and the Gauls. For the mod. nearly every unit will be reskinned. A new campaign map of Italy is in development. As an added bonus, later on a new Prologue campaign may be included. Many of the buildings from BI will be modified and redesigned, with the inclusion of several new buildings as well. New historical events, battles and wonders will also occur throughout the course of the game, making the game more exciting and less monotonous. So without further ado, the Preview:

As stated earlier, the game will focus on the Italian Peninsula, although provinces are found on Sicily, Corsica, Africa and on the Illyrian coast as well.
This is a pic. of our most recent map update. Note that the provinces are not yet a finished job. More may be included.

The Faction List is as of yet incomplete, we are in the process of researching more historical factions to include. However, we do already have:
Latium (The Unified Romans)
Etruscans (Early Italians, aka Pre-Romans)
Samnites (Early Italians)
Volsci (Early Italians)
Liguria (Barbarian)
Boii (Barbarian)
Senones (Barbarian)
Pannonii (Barbarian)
Syracuse (Greek)
Carthago (African)
For the mod. we plan to utilize all of the available faction slots. So that means we have 11 slots still open. These slots will most likely be filled with atleast one or two Illyrian factions. Another slot will be Sicilian. Also another faction may be included on the African coast. Several of the remaining faction slots will be given to Greek factions; Most likely three in the heel and toe of Italy and one representing Syracuse and the Greek influence on Sicily.

This Preview is meant to give you members of the .Org forums an inside look of what is happening in the development of ERTW. So, to give you an idea of the talent we have working on skins, we have several pics. to show you that have been taken and slightly cropped and modified by our skinner, TotalWarFanatic.

And as a special favor to him (he asked that i include this last shot).

Please note that not all of the work the team has accomplished is shown here. Much more work remains to be seen at our development forum, the link for that is found below here. At the site there remains to be seen: faction buttons for several factions, faction descriptions, more skins/screenshots by TWF, and many debates among the team members on options not yet announced as part of the mod.

If you are interested in this modification, would like to join up and help work on it, or if you just want to know where to look for updates on the mod. Check out our development forum found here in the ERTW Subforum (http://z3.invisionfree.com/Early_Romr_Total_War/index.php?act=SC&c=1). If you are interested in helping out with the mod. please post so using the link above at our forum

Thanks, The ERTW team.

We would really would like people who can create a campaign map and do units to join, and maybe someone who is really familiar with the files.

I checked out the forums for this mod. and I must say that I was impressed with the amount of work that these few guys are putting out. I know that making a good mod. is hard, but I never really thought about how much work it is, especially when you don;t have a full roster of members working on it. I like the fact that this mod. is disscussing many different options for the mod. I saw threads about unifying Rome, using various formation mod (Darthformations, I believe) to make gameplay bettter and many other cool things. Check out the link at the bottom of the preview-thingy.

Its nice to hear good comments from people. It makes making a mod worth it.

And what is the Swastikas connection with Ancient Italy and Nazi Germany?

The swastika has a long history which includes ancient mediterranean cultures, read:

IIRC the swastika is the opposite of an ancient Babylonian sybol for life. If you turn the bent part of a swastika backwards, so that they point the other way. Then the symbol become s the Babylonian symbol for life. Taken the way a swastika is it means death I believe.
I need o go find a link for this, I can't remember where I saw it and I want to make sure that I'm 100% correct on this, as it isn't mentioned inthe wiki article above either.

Certain symbols (EG the swastika) have been used by various cultures through the histories. People have a habit of copying each other, and so it is for this reason that symbols such as the Swastika have been passed around, adopted etc by alternate cultures.

As mentioned, the uses of similar symbols in different cultures have been interpreted both as they originally were (from the originating culture), but in some cases the symbol's representation has been altered to represent something else entirely.

Nice work kburkert! Are you using the vanilla unit animations for units such as those displayed in the screenshots? You may wish to consider implementing SigniferOne's animations pack (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27015) for a major improvement in unit animations and therefore melee. However, if you wish to use the S1 animations pack, you'll need to gain his explicit permission before being able to use them in your project. Send him a PM on the TWC forums, I'm sure he'll let you make use of his fantastic animations pack! :2thumbsup:

What is the problem with the Swastika??? Nazism hasn't been beaten? why do ppl have to mistake the Swastika with Nazism? the romans used, as well as many other cultures....does that makes them Nazis? im jew, but that symbol doesn't cause me any kind of emotion..it's a symbol nothing less.. i think the American paranoia, and bigotry is becoming a world wide hysteria..for god's sake, don't go all nuts about a bloody Swastika...it's just a drawing! it can be seen as a holy mark..let's not allow the stupidity and brutalness of some poor minded freaks in the past cloud our judjement and lives today..WW2 was more than 60 years ago..let it go!! we are no more at war with the germans..let the Swastika be seen for what it really is, and not as a political symbol, and a symbol a genocide..that's in the past, i lost ppl there too, but life goes on..that's the least we can do for those who died in that holocaust..

Great mod! I've been hoping for a mod like this, italy-centric.
Can you give the timeline covered by the mod? From the decline of the Etruscans to annihilation of Carthage?

The timeline is not done yet but it is around 400bc back a bit maybe to 500bc finish date not yet known.

hm... i guess the timeframe is the most important thing.
year to year the things changes.
choose a unique timeframe, in which something important could happens.

also, keep a look to Paeninsula Italica's work on TWC...

Believe me I haave been watching them. They have qute a bit of talent there. its not going to be easy competing for users with them, but we'll manage. I think that we have more new features we want to implement then they do. That could the reason we get more attention right there.
