Video (http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/06/01.html#a8537) of Keith Olberman of MSNBC knocking Bill O'Reilly out after O'Reilly repeatedly tries to use the ol' "two wrongs make a right" argument and claims the US Army slaughtered unarmed Nazis who surrendered to them at Malmedy... when in fact it was the Americans who had surrendered, and were subsequently slaughtered.
Surprising no one, Fox whitewashed (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,197635,00.html) the transcript, replacing "Malmedy" with "Normandy."
not really much to make on this - it's just the usual pundit stupidy on both sides. but it is very telling to see the vid and how o'reilly just cannot admit a mistake.

There were reports of "take no prisoners" orders at the squad level in the area after Malmedy to American soldiers in retaliation. As well as individual acts of retaliation against SS prisoners/those trying to surrender.
So, it appears O'reilly was technically right. Unless, of course, you don't view murdering unarmed prisoners in retaliation for a similar act a week earlier an atrocity or a war crime.
If you do, then his point that every war (including WW2) had incidents of soldiers violating the laws of war and commiting horrible acts, and that isolated incidents of acts that can and will (murder charges pending against the Marines) be punished does not reflect on the overall mission or the military is valid.
Dunno what a malmady is but it did happen in Italy though, there the us troops had the order to beat surrendering gemans to death with the back of their rifle.
at least that is what I read in a book called 'Napels 1944'
One of the worst atrocities is Americans publicly talking about politics, judging by that video.~
“There were reports of "take no prisoners" orders at the squad level in the area after Malmedy to American soldiers in retaliation. As well as individual acts of retaliation against SS prisoners/those trying to surrender.”
Hum, you can’t compare as you stated “individual act of retaliation” and systematic slaughter of war prisoners like the SS started from the beginning of the war (Dunkirk against the English, Gamblou against the French).
However, I find the mistake quite funny…

Ahh yes, the gotcha game. Well, if you play in the limelight don't trip and fall.

The Foxnews transcript you linked to has "Malmedy".
I hope that video is part of MSNBC's editorial programming. Even then, he takes great delight in railing against Bill.
And yes, Bill's silly.

Probably mistaked Malmedy for Dachau, or another one of them incidents. There were quite a few, though.

No O'Reilly was wrong and no amount of spinning from his sycophants can change that.
We all know which Malmedy massacre was being refered to and there is no doubt that the dead bodies were American soldiers not German
O'Reilly said - General! You need to look at the Malmedy massacre in World War Two, and the 82nd Airborne who did it!"
If O'Reilly was 'technically correct' then Fox News wouldn't need to surreptitously wash the transcript - twice.
Fox twice tampered version (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,171190,00.html)- "O'REILLY: General, you need to look at the Malmady (ph) massacre in World War II and the 82nd Airborne."
What happened to the last 3 words??
