http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/books/06/01/batwoman.uncloseted.ap/index.html I thought this was intresting. Im not really sure what I think or if I should care at all. It was on Cnns 10 most popular so some people care. Why they care is still a mystrey to me however.

Wait, wait, wait ... there's a Batwoman? And she's ... :wall:
Capitalists, why don't they just leave well-enough alone?

Well, Renee Montoya has been drifting around the DC universe for a while, and no-one seemed to care about her homosexuality. The story regarding it in Gotham Central was very well done, as was the rest of that book. I don't really see what the big deal is.
It amuses me how the general public has, for the most part, very little idea of what is happening in current comics continuity, until something like this happens and they start complaining about 'messing with beloved characters'. The Death of Superman storyline was an obvious case in point.

Apart from the Fantastic Four I don't think there is many mainstream superheroes who couldn't be written up as gay... just watch the old batman & robin tv series and you will be battling not to say "He likes the night life, he likes the boogie, he likes robin a little too much!".
Anyone who runs around in their or even their Mum's underwear on the outside has issues, so when is the first Transgender superhero movie comming out?.. I'm sure the rest of the the Desparate Housewives could star in it... Teri and Felicity have already stared in one aspect of the movie so I'm sure together they can cover the basics.

I dunno. Capes are kinda cool. :)
I've given up on the bigger names in comics these days anyway. I only read Conan and Swamp Thing. I guess, though, that a homosexual protagonist who isn't a flaming, in-your-face fairy or a bull dyke with a rat tail would help settle things out and foil some stereotypes, so long as it's done properly.
come on...it´s not like they´re taking over the comic industry....
the only other comic book character that I can remember that was openly gay was northstar.....and they killed him off last year!
who cares if some female hero nobody even heard of before is gay or not?
Sales are that bad now, eh?
Don't know if you've eer followed comics but sales have been that bad since the late 90's. An example I remember is that Spawn sold 1 million copies an issue in 1992 and that in 2001 it sold 70000 copies and issue. And it's not that the popularity of Spawn had slide it was still a top seller it's just that the market had gone through a massive down turn.
So the big 2 keep troting out these lame gimicks every year and try to lure new readers. The only reason it made it to CNN is because of DC's new minorities in forefront project. They killed off Ted Kord and made a hispanic teen Blue Beetle. Really the only reason we see this story on CNN is because it's a Bat-family character being a lesbian.

Hey Lars, pretty accurate summary of the comic market IMO. As a comic fanboy for 20+ years I have seen the industry go thru some real peeks and valleys, what gets me about the current state of comics is that I think they are in the middle of a peek and they still feel the need to do these stupid gimmicky things. Seriously, a lesbian batwoman movie isn’t going to stand a chance against spiderman, superman or another “Hot” comic movie, why even bother? Concentrate on making more of the good movies and skip the “B” level crap.
I don't usually have a problem with them, provided there not too stupid. I also really don't have a problem with DC bringing out minority versions of characters. Just so long as they don't do something cheap and insulting to get rid of the old character. Like they did with Ted Kord, had borther blood just blow his ehad off. :wall: And stupid being the whole New Avengers. Which just turned the Avengers into another X-men team plus Spider-man. Heroes reborn was OK, until Rob Liefield dropped the ball on his end.

Who cares if she's gay. But that artwork looks like a twelve year old did it on the back of his maths jotter.

Don't knock it just yet. Wait till you see her use her new weapon, the Tongue of Justice, on Catwoman to capture her!!! She also carries the Dildo of Liberty.

Brother Blood? I thought it was Maxwell Lord.
Wait, yeah it was Max Lord. In my FAT it's just listed second string hero killed by second string supporting character. :sweatdrop:

I am pretty sure it was Lord that popped a cap in the Blue Beetle’s brain pan and I actually liked that it happened, showed the seriousness of the situation with Lord and it gave an unused B level character an A class finale. I like the “new” Avengers and although I am sure to be disappointed I am looking forward to Civil War. And Liefield is my least favorite person in comics, he ruins everything he touches, not even my Levies fit right after his stupid commercial back in the 90’s. @ Rob Liefield, go away and don’t come back until you learn how to draw a neck…. grumble grumble looser grumble.

My personal favourite comics at the moment are the 'Tec/Batman Robinson crossovers, which are truly a breath of fresh air after the complete tool Batman we've had for a couple of years, and Ed Brubaker's current run on Captain America. Brubaker is really on fire at the moment, he was awesome on Gotham Central, and his Daredevil is miles better than Bendis's was after only three issues.
I also thought the Ted Kord death was well done and a fitting end to the character, although I was sorry to see him go. He was the archetypal guts and gadgets hero, even more so than Bats in a way.

Although Batmans entry into the catwalk competition for Mardi Gra had the right walk.
The Bats literal response to the Judges backstage pass of "If ya want to win ya have to blow me" didn't go down well at all.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! :laugh4:
I should find out when the old "Batman" series airs... it seems like an amusing thing to watch whilst baked. That, or the even older "Batman" from the 40's or so.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Dave, this is why we love you! :laugh4:
This is just the first step. I've always had a feeling that the relationship between Batman and Robin, you know, the whole "ward" issue, well, it sounds kinda NAMBLA to this lemur ...

And if you need mainstream gay comics, didn't Marvel do this four years ago with the Rawhide Kid (http://www.marveldirectory.com/individuals/r/rawhidekid.htm)?

Goody! Yet another movie I won't bother seeing.
Actually Rawhide kid was just the latest. Northstar (A member of Marvels Canadian superhero team Alpha flight) and Hector (a supporting character from Hulks pantheon days, or the big green model times) were outed in the mid 90's.

Huh. I didn't know Northstar was gay.
Neither did he until Marvel decided to pull a stupid gimmick, that obviously didn’t work well or more people would have known.
But he was French-Canadian, hummm.
there's a batwoman?

Yep, granted I'd only heard of her form the Timm-verse Direct to video moive "Mystery of the Batwoman". But like the Bat horse, Bat hound, and Bat mite she was an actual character.
