Hey all,
With the '06 World Cup just around the corner I'm organising a World Cup 2006 Prediction Competition. Basically all you have to do is predict the results of all the matches in the group stages, the winners and runners up of each group stage, the winners then of each round, and who progresses or whatever, and then whoever wins the world cup and who the runner up will be. You also need to predict who will be the highest scoring player and team of the competition.

The way this then works is that for each prediction you get right you receive points e.g. if you predict England to beat Trinidad and Tobago 50-0 in the group stage and thats the result then you get 5 points. Then after the World Cup I'll add up everyones points and and the winner will be
decided. If there is a tie then we can play paper rock scissors or some rubbish :laugh4: .

To make this easier for everyone I've made a form that you just copy and paste into your post and fill it in appropiatly with all your predictions.
There will be no money prizes or anything for this, it's just a bit of fun but you will win a 'lil R.E.S.P.E.C.T I suppose and a siggy or some tac.

Anyway here's the point system:

Group Stage Points
5 points for every correct scoreline, and 2 points for every correct result.
5 points for every correct group winner, and 2 points for every correct group runner up.

2nd Round Points
5 points for every team correctly predicted to reach this stage.
5 points for every correct scoreline, and 2 points for every correct result.

Quarter Final Points
10 points for every team correctly predicted to reach this stage.
5 points for every correct scoreline, and 2 points for every correct result.

Semi Final Points
15 points for every team correctly predicted to reach this stage.
5 points for every correct scoreline, and 2 points for every correct result.

Final Points
20 points for correctly guessing the teams to reach the final.
5 points for every correct scoreline, and 2 points for every correct result.

Other Points
15 points for correctly guessing the overall world cup top scoring player and 15 points for correctly guessing the overall world cup top scoring team.
30 points for correctly predicting the World Cup winners and 20 points for correctly predicting the world cup runners up.

I will add up everyones points and announce the winner shortly after July 9th.

The form for you all to fill in is in my next post. Good luck and have fun.
:2thumbsup:

Also @ mods, could this be stickied pretty please. ~:)

...oh and COME ON ENGLAND! :england:

I made a prediction starting from the group winners all the way to the finals and winning team, but posted it in another thread. I Think I posted it in the Soccer thread...

I'll look it up and maybe add the group matches ( and scores ) to my main prediction.

How do England and Kwang Tung get together? :inquisitive:

Anyhow, nice to see that they've changed Serbia and Montenegro to Serbia only now.

Kwang Tung is the name of my local Chinese take-away in England. :inquisitive:

Serbia is a cut down version like Trinidad instead of Trinidad & Tobago and so forth

Rythmic, can youtell me why you have Poland beating Germany?? That would be the upset of the Cup. Last time around Germany were the runners up and are playing on home turf, if they lose to Poland..........:furious3:

Germany aren't a favorite for the title this year, not by a long shot.

I mean, last WC they did manage to get to the finals, yes they did, but did they deserve it ?

In my opinion that would be a no.

Besides it would be a nice way to take revenge on Germany if they manage to beat them

Recently Germany has performed poorly when faced with a decisive challanger. A massive 4 -1 loss to Italy. And a 2 - 2 draw with Japan (A Japan that outperformed Germany completely).

Their squad is also realatively young, with little expierenced leadership. Ballack is doubtful, in both his own fitness and the quality/ability of his own team.

Ballack even said:

'The results and performance in the run-up to the World Cup show that this team is not so stable.'

Are you sure you're dutch?

As a dutchman I know that playing germany on their heimat is hell. And don't be fooled by this vendetta thing, we love them really, we all secretly want germany to do well.

Of course I will never admit that.

Highest Scoring Player: Kevin Kurányi (German striker)

You might want to change this - Kuranyi is not even on the German team ~:)

Lampard has only missed two penalties, ever! He should still be the no.1 penalty taker (and is).
The reason he missed that penalty was because he hadn't practicesed them since the season finished, he said in an interview.

I was a bit shocked when he missed that one though but still at least it didn't affect the result. :2thumbsup:

I agree, their current team is quite unstable, possibly with good potential but they haven't shown it yet. They have an easy starting group so they'll probably get to the second round, but after that I'm afraid it's quite difficult to predict their results. I don't think they have much of a chance with their new offensive tactics compared to the former tight defense tactics. But to my prediction I added a bit of skill boost because they have the home arena this time. But I doubt that will suffice to bring them to the finals, because the final will be played between Brazil (unmatched offensive, good defenders, and excellent goalkeeper) and Czech Republic (tight defensive tactics + very effective quick counter-attacks).

I mean, last WC they did manage to get to the finals, yes they did, but did they deserve it ?

I think they were quite good last WC. Their tactics were good, I was quite sure quite early that they and Brazil would reach the finals after seeing the full list of quarter final teams and looking at possible results in the finals matches and who they could meet. Greece winning European Championships also shows that defensive tactics are more stable than offensive, unless you have players like Brazil have...

Well to be fair, they were lucky concerning their group that time too....I mean , they were grouped with Kameroen, Ireland and Saudi - Arabia !

After that they were lined up against Paraguay, the US, South-Korea and in the finals Brazil...

Now really, Paraguay and Brazil are tough opponents I'll give you that, but certainly winning against the US and South Korea isn't that big of a challenge, as they aren't the most feared adversaries one might imagine - even taking South Korea's great form into consideration.

And, I'd like to not mention Greece winning the EC...that was absolutely horrible!
I was hoping The Czech republic or Portugal would win that one.

Hopefully, quarter final 1 will be Germany vs Holland :2thumbsup:

Absolutely, that would be great !

Don't get me started. We annihilated them with 6-0, and they win the bloody cup. At least these damn Italians didn't get it, Italians are nice people but they really have to die, I hate their playing style. Always trying to cheat out penalties with their crying *oh teh pain a fly just bumped against me* and their entire team sitting in the goal :furious3:
