Does your mod require dark-faced portraits?

One of the projects I am working on is changing the vanilla Eastern portraits from light-skinned/silver-armoured to dark-skinned/brazen-armoured images, thus:

This is not hard - you don't even need any artistic skills really - but it *is* time consuming because there are around 120 images for the young generals, 120 for the old versions and then the civilians (old and young) too.

If anyone has an interest in such images (or part thereof) and wishes to obtain all of these portrait conversion files for their mod *and* is willing to help out in this conversion then contact me.

All you need is PS or PSP - probably can be done in Gimp too though I have not tried.

Did you use selective color or just lower the brightness of the image? By the looks of it id say you did the second. I would suggest taking the extra time to do the first as i think it would help it to look better.

Something looks off and I think its the eyes. Obviously itd be best to try to leave them out of the selected portion when you adjust the image so that they dont change color as well. I dont know if this would be too much work though.

Regardless its a really good idea for a project. Good luck with it.

I used the freehand selector tool to select the entire skin area and then use the R/G/B levels and adjust them (so yes the eyes are affected). Likewise for chain, helm and plates.

I've no idea how to select only a certain range of colour in an image and then alter that range whilst leaving the rest of the image untouched.

Isolating the eyes in my current method would indeed be far too time-consuming. Indeed, it would be my eyes that would be changing colour were I to pursue such a course :dizzy2:

I also wish to start a project to remove all tattoos from Barbarian portraits. Yes, I am mad! :laugh4:

To select a single colour in ps you go to files select/color range and use shift to add more colors to your selection, it takes a while to get a good setting depending on the image, in the pop up box chose selection and as you add colours it should show as an alpha (black and white) with your selection in white hit ok and it will give you a marquee, hope that helps, oh to speed up doing a large amount of images you can create an action, it's still time consuming and you need a good comp to use it but it does save having to do the same thing over and over. whether it will work for portraits though i don't know(as there all different) but it should. good luck.

In which case use the Magic Wand tool - can select areas of the same colour/hue/saturation/opacity/etc and you can vary the tolerance and feather the edges if you wish. Very handy tool.
