Hey,
I bought a xbox 360, but it is extremely loud and can get very annoying. Is there anything I can do or buy to lessen this, maybe a cooling device?
Thanks,
Hiji

Turn down the volume.

He means the fans and stuff.

I've seen quite a few complaints scattered across the internet about this. Maybe you could complain to Microsoft and get a replacement?

Well is it something that is only affecting a small amount of systems? I simply suspected this was a problem with everyone.

I wouldn't know how many people have the problem, as i've not looked into it at any depth. Google is your friend, Hiji, Google is your friend!

I've looked at a few websites, from what i've read, loud fans can sometimes be a sign of overheating. I recommend trying to use a vacumm cleaner to suck out the dust, and put it in a well ventilated area.

PC fans are just the same, why should 360's?

Nothing you can do about that. That's just how loud it is.

It's funny, because the new Xbox 360s have a better fan system that is quieter and more effective.

Huzzah for patient customers!

I know they sell additional coolers, maybe they help with the noise level ?

I just bought it last week....

I thought about the fans, but I heard they actually create more noise.

The machine makes you worry it will lift of and fly away doesn't it. Yes it's extremily annoying, and it such a penetrating sound so just turning up your speakers doesn't help.

Put it in a box or throw a heavy blanket over it when you use it(or both), that should help.:2thumbsup:

Throwing a heavy blanket over it during use will overheat it. Although, just like a pillow over a lobotimized McMurphy, eventually the box will be quiet and peaceful. ~;)

you all know its supposed to sit horizontal right? Most of the problems are caused because people sit them upright, that is the long side perpendicular to the floor. Try it horizontal and see if it helps.

Your xbox is probably first gen, microsoft can have them replaced for free, becuase mine froze alot too. Call them first, as i'm not sure how it works in europe ~;p for me they asked me for a reciept of purchase and then tested the xbox360 and then replaced it.
