Well yesterday was the provincial election in Nova Scotia. And not much has changed. Sure the Conservatives lost 2 seats (for a total of 23), the NDP (socialists, social democras) gained 5 seats (total 20), the libeals lost three (total 9). And fully asuumed the NDP's former role as the lame third party in the back. And the Conservatives are in charge, with a minority, for another year or too. It's been a year and a half since the lst provincial election, such is minority politics. Our legislature has 52 seats and to have a majprity you a minimum of aobut 30 (51% right).

Anyway, the Conservatives and their rookie leader Rodney MacDonald had a set back, this is his first 6 months as leader of a provincial political party and premier and his first election as both. Instead of using the young primiers youthfulness (he's the youngest primier in Canada at 34, the man he replaced was the oldest at 67) to gain a majority, they lost ground the NDP. I blame is on his dipping into the Nova Scotia PC (Progressive Conservatives) parties old bag of tricks. That is promise everything to everyone and steal some of the major campagin issues that your main rival is running on. And talking out of both sides of his face. At the start of the campagin saying that all parties should run a clean race, no mud slinging. Then he goes and makes comments that amount too "socialism boogy boogy!" about the NDP. All the while stealing their position on issues. :wall: I'll have to google to find out what. :sweatdrop: But it was 5 things that the NDP has been saying they would do in office for 10 years, that the consevative have said are a waste of time and money in the past. But there no longer wastes of time and money when they can win you votes are they! :idea2: Argh! :furious3:

Ofcourse the NDP and it's leader Darryl Dexter took this instride. Not lashing out angrily. In fact Dexter said his parites ideas are free and anyone can use them. But he did chastised the young primier for going back on his word about mud-slinging. This is why I'll always vote NDP, provicially and federally. They have some integrity.

OK I do know that this whole thing only matters to me. I just really needed to do this. So I invite all orgah to do the same in this thread. Brits, complain about your local council here. Auzzies, Yanks, and Germans complain aobut the under performance of your state government here. My French brothers the place to lambast your prefect is also here. Just try to give as much back ground information as you can.

A littel reading in the local paper's post-mortum of the election revealed that 3 issues the Conservatives stole from the NDP were. No provincial sales taxes on heating oil, no wait times for nursing homes, and to stop closing small (student body wise) schools in rural areas.

Hey, I was in rant mode. And was guessing anyway. :sweatdrop: But I was wrong a majority is 28 seats.

28 is 53.85% of 52. In other words more than half but not much more.

One needs 27 seats to form a majority in a 52-seat government.
