Anyone play this multiplayer FPS based on the 1944 war? ~:)
I just bought it today, and I am waiting to finish the exams to kick some butts, with the Wehrmacht. :2thumbsup:

Anyone willing to play with me?

I'd be more than willing to give you a good stomping, but I had to uninstall the game to make room for the original Baldur's Gate again..heh.

I play Day of Defeat: Source. Have you got xfire?

ShadesPanther

Yeah I play it. In a clan too.

Unfortunately it isn't as good as Pre-Source. But it is still good.

Nah, I don't have xFire, but I'll surely get one. ~D

Its a pretty solid game in fact just finished playing it now. The maps are fun, the objectve things make it more interesting than CSS. With new updates coming the game should be even better, including new modes of play. However i would say it lacks a decent British skin damn it i just dont like fighting as the americans.

They aslo made it vey "sprayish"
The Tommy gun is king frankly, which is very sad as the KAR used to be King and Queen.

The tommy gun has the tendancy to get a random heashot from any distance and the M1 gerrand is just diabolical unless you have some real skill with it.

Can't wait to finish the damned exams so I can kick some sides!!! :furious3:

At least, I need to wait only 5 more days. ~D

Good game although you coudl argue it's lacking in maps and shoudl have a few more. But other than that it's a good solid game. ~:)

Yeah, they took a year longer than CS and came out with only 4 maps and Anzio is always wanted rid off each new version they made for beta.

edyzmedieval
06-17-2006, 15:28
First of all, you can create new maps, so that's not a problem. ~:)

Why don't we create a DoD: Source Org Clan? :balloon2:

I remember playing the Betas online also. I had great fun with the MG42.

There are currently 5 maps now, instead of the 4 that came out in (October was it?) But, 2 more maps are comming out in the start of July.
There are a few custom maps that are good, Argentan is best

Ah thanks for the info Shades.

Come on, let's make an Org DoD:Source Clan. ~D
What do you say? I'm in if you guys like the idea.

I have issues with the rifles in it, they are pointless. The Garand especially, it takes two hits to kill usually and isn't especially accurate or fast firing.

Seeing as the Tommy gun fires so much faster and is as accurate...

I might of tried it if it was like RO on the western front, and i heard many people loved pre source version .

What about distance? Is it mainly close range combat? The Tommy Gun should be short range, whereas rifles should shine over range.

I was thinking of getting DoD this weekend, but perhaps going to save my money for something else (beer for example).

GoreBag

The rifle is king on the latest map, Argentan, since it's much wider than the others. When I first started to play Source, I had trouble converting to the tommy/mp40 because I had previously been lord of both the MG34 and the Kar98/Lee Enfield. After a while, I got used to the tommy, but then gradually relearned to use rifles again.

I still want the British/Canadian troops back, though.

I installed DoD: Source. ~D
I can play from tommorrow. ~:)

Anyhow, although there are 4 maps, we can surely expect an expansion pack, plus there are many mods out there.

Also, 2 new maps are going to be released with the next update.

edyzmedieval

Ok, as first impression, I like it. ~D
Everything lookin good and it's really nice, but I hate the limited number of maps. That's all.

By the way, my Xfire is edyzmedieval.
I'll create an Org Clan Server, so look for it. ~:)

I might get the game, not sure yet. How does it compare to Call of Duty 1?

Whats the IP for server?

edyzmedieval
06-22-2006, 21:43
Somehow, I have problems creating it. My connection stalls.

I'll try creatin it these days, hope it works, and hope I don't have to pay for it.

Does the game support bots? The original did eventually.

How does DOD:Source compare to the original for Half-life 1? DoD is pretty much the only game I play online anymore and frankly the only reason I would buy HL2. Haven't purchased it yet because my comp can't really run it but I am getting my long overdue upgrade soon.

Also edyzmedieval I would love to join the clan once I get the new DoD, might even be a month or two till I get it but whatever. I am not the greatest and I tend to use the MG42 mostly. When I'm not playing drunk I am usually among the top 5 in the server unless Im playing against some clan or crazy good guys.

Not atm afaik.

The game's excellent provided you can get a game, although there should be an option to enforce hdr (so people can't get an advantage by having it off). :P

It's free to play this weekend. I've had a couple of hours or so playing it. It seems ok. A bit fast paced compared to CS though. I suppose it depends on server settings, but with fast respawns as most servers I've been on tend to have, you don't need to do much more than run around blasting and trying to capture a flag first. Doesn't matter if you die as you're back in 10 seconds time anyway. Which makes me wonder why guns have so many spare magazines. How you going to get through 12 BAR magazines when your average life expectancy is under a minute? I think I prefer Hidden and Dangerous 2 online, a bit more slow paced but unfortunately with awful hit detection. I'll give DoD a few more goes before the weekend is up, but I doubt I'll buy it.

I managed to empty it 2 times, because I found an ideal position. 6 kills only. :embarassed:

I used to be well into the original DoD, but then I tend to switch games frequently. Never bought DoD: Source at the time though, probably because I was too addicted to the original ~D

I've always believed that DoD was superior to MOH and its various expansion packs, even though MOH was graphically superior. Although the MOH 'lean' capability was good, used to let you peek round corners and pick-off a headshot or two on unsuspecting opponents...

The great thing about DoD is that I could literally pick up any weapon class in a short space of time. It was a bit of a pain once all the bolt-action rifles were hogged all the time on certain servers, and you were left with the crappy semi-auto rifles such as the carbine, where you need multiple hits to register a kill.

As mentioned above, the MG34 is awesome, simply because it hardly ever overheats, and you carry tons of ammo. Its downside is the small ammo box capacity, as you can burn through those rounds in no time.

I've always thought that sniping makes you too vunerable on DoD - you have to keep relocating yourself to new positions, otherwise face several grenades all heading into your hiding place ~D On MOH, you could safely pick a sniping spot, and kill several before even being spotted and being forced to relocate.

Anyone still playing it?
Apart from me and Sapi. (4-1 Sapo, don't forget about it! )

I play it off and on as "von Schpetzka" but I prefer RO. I really enjoyed all the betas of DoD, I still remeber playing 1.2 with my dial modem and still rocking. Then 2.0 brought in my beloved MGs, oh the carnage I caused...

Still pissed that they took out the Brits, I loved my Sten, Bren, and good ol' Lee Enfield. Taking people out with my service revolver was always satisfying as well.

I'm one of the fans of "realism" so I dislike the similiarities it has with CS, which was only enjoyable for me with the school's LAN with the taunting of each other in real life instead of having to type that stuff in.

Sometimes though, I just need to kill some nazis and DoD is my fix with that, I tend to do rather well with my trusty M1, the way it is in the game I don't think Patton would ever have called it the greatest battle instrument ever but I'm a good shot and usually get the follow up shot for the kill.

Ah yes, RO is a definite masterpiece of gaming engineering.

But still I like DoDS style, of run-n-gun and all those superb custom maps that have been created.

Well I got the game yesterday and have been enjoying it. Though I can't play European or American servers since I get a ping of 350 - 400. ~:mecry:
So I have to stick to Kiwi and Aussie servers.

sapi
05-06-2007, 02:59
Hepcat, I highly reccomend the Internode servers for Aussies/Kiwis, especially 'node 3 (+ff 20pp, which are by far the best settings for dods)

What's your ingame name?
