Very cute kids, indeed. They will make excellent vassals when Emperor Maxwell the First seizes worldwide power.

Aren't you a day early for Father's Day? Oh, who cares, I suppose. Happy Patriarch Day to me and Dave and all the other daddies on the Org!

Very cute kids, indeed. They will make excellent vassals when Emperor Maxwell the First seizes worldwide power.Emperor? How can you be so modest in your expectations on your most wonderful son? I'm sure he'll grow to be as clever as I am and rule the world quietly from a beautiful island somewhere, and not an Emperor trapped with all the formalities of that most unexalted position. :2thumbsup:

I've said myself somewhere: "why steal from the state (for your benefit) when you can make yourself the State?"

Happy Father's Day. Methinks.

Is it normal in the US to have a gardner do the garden ? I mean, do most people not mow their own lawn?

And another question, do paper boys really throw the papers just on the doorstep (what if it rains?)

Sorry for drifting off topic..just wondering about this ...

_Martyr_
06-17-2006, 13:39
... and whats the deal with not being allowed drink till your 21? thats insane! Is that a federal thing or is it state to stete?

Duke Malcolm
06-17-2006, 14:31
And all that business about gambling being illegal? What's wrong with a few harmsless pounds being won over a game of poker in a tedious physics lesson?

_Martyr_
06-17-2006, 14:41
Eh, Duke Malcolm, you are aware that the gmbling Mecca of the world, Las Vegas, is in the US...? One thing is for certain, they DO know how to gamble!

The drinking age is 21 but it is a law that I scoff at (Many younger people can get alchool easily the law stops nothing)

Many people I know do not have gardners. I mow my lawn and pull weeds and know how to use power tools. So do about 85% of me friends.

The paper gets here by magic

_Martyr_
06-17-2006, 15:00
So is that a Federal thing or is it up to each State?

'Cause it would melt and anyway, you'd have endless arguments about whether it was lower class to put the ice in before the milk...

_Martyr_
06-17-2006, 15:42
No, the real answer is that the last think someone from this cold damp part of the world wants is an ice cold drink...

_Martyr_
06-17-2006, 15:46
Maybe I should actually qualify that statement... the last think someone from this cold damp part of the world wants is an ice cold unalcoholic drink.

rory_20_uk

I thought that the problem was that with thin bone china the sudden increase in temperature caused by the tea could lead to the china breaking. By adding the milk first this is averted.

Iced tea? With our weather? Are you MAD??? :inquisitive:

Cute kids Dave!

And for you admirers of America (~;p) I will answer your questions:

Most people (middle class anyways, those with large mansions might be different) garden their own gardens.

The drinking age is something the feds forced the states into accepting. The feds couldn't change the drinking age in states, so they just withheld monies for transportation projects (money collected from state residents) until the states changed their laws (this was under Reagan, I think).

As SFTS said, many ignore it. As another plus, it teaches kids to ignore the law.

Gambling is illegal in most states. A few (Nevada) have used this to their advantage, allowing gambling. Indian tribes in any state can build casinos, though. Washington state has no gambling (and has criminalized online gambling (guess who lobbied for that)), but big casinos spread throughout on tribal land.

As for the paper throwing question, SFTS is right. Some things are best left unanswered.

Thats absolutely ridiculous. Is there not a huge movement to get that rectified? In many countries here in Europe the age is 16. I cant believe that you can get married, have kids, own a gun and vote at 18 in America, but damnit your going down if you have a glass of champaign at your own wedding!:help: :embarassed:

Crazed Rabbit
06-17-2006, 18:02
Yeah, it's absurd.

Unfortunately, the movement right now is continuously reducing the allowed amount of alcohol in your system while driving (now at 0.08 in Washington).

In most states, you can't even have an open alcoholic bottle in your car.

I take it you mean .8 promile, rather then 8 percent? :dizzy2:
It's .5 over here. What do you think is a good limit? Still being able to walk?

0.08 percent = .8 promille, if my maths don't fail me. 0.05% over here.

Do you guys really use those in-door ice dispensers on your fridges?

Crazed Rabbit
06-18-2006, 05:27
Yes. At least, when the fridge has one.

It's a sign of class, you know.

In Montana, you can have an open alcohol bottle if you're not drunk.
And in my county, the county executive pulled in drunk to a taco bell with a half empty bottle of vodka in his car. He's still working. :juggle2:

do french women shave there pits? Why don't you come over and see for yourself? There's a huge demand for big American Bubba's with a raunchy Texas accent.

A great big noble savage from the colonies is a very avant-garde fashion statement amongst Parisiennes nowadays. Very retro.

I don't know about that, but I once walked into a liquor store in St. Charles, Missouri, that sold guns and ammo. Just imagine the fun to be had in that neighborhood on Saturday nights.

Cute kidlets, Dave.

And I will say that no matter how much you try to prove to the rest of us that you are nothing more than an offensive, boorish, ass, the fact that you so plainly love your kids as much as you do works against you.

It proves that you're not as much of a prick as you want us to believe...
