:help:

I finally got round to patching my RTW install, as it seems that most MODs need at leat V1.3. I began by installing the 1.3 patch from the total war site, and then also decided to get the 1.5 patch as well. When I started the game, it got as far as the screen displaying all of the developer's and publisher's logos before quitting back to the desktop. I looked in the RTW folders and found that the player preferences text file is completely empty. I don't know whether that means anything. Could somebody please help?

I'd recommend biting the bullet and reinstalling the game. Once that's done, install patch 1.2 (Google it, it doesn't show up on the CA site anymore), and then 1.3 and 1.5.

Hi Master Thief.

When I was advised on upgrading from RTW V1.0 I was told to miss out early patches and go V1.3 then V1.5

Good luck gitting yours working.

I think it usually has to be a 'clean install' meaning brand new. I'd take some time and re-install, I did it once when I messed up downloading RTR.

Hey everyone. Cheers for all of your help. I did bite the bullet and reinstalled RTW. I then made a backup version just in case (and also to install RTR later on). I've currently patched one version to 1.2 and it works fine. I'm going to have to download V1.3 again as that seems to have got messed up. :dizzy2: Hopefully everything should go alright this time. I'll post an update very soon. Thanks again. ~:thumb:

This is getting slightly ridiculous. Somethings not quite right with the 1.3 patch. Instead of getting straight on with patching the game, when I run the installer it brings up a box asking me whether I want to modify, repair or uninstall. I clicked the modify button, and it modified the patch. Not quite what I was after. I'm not entirely sure whats wrong. I thought it might be due to the multiple installs, but I tried deleting one of them and the problem persists. Any help would be much appreciated, but if you choose to ignore my constant moanings then I don't blame you. I'll probably settle with V1.2 and play RTR 6 gold instead of platinum as I had planned. At least the game works I s'pose (and MTW 2 isn't too far off). Anyway, cheers for all the help. Feel free to dispose of this thread in the next couple of days. I'll try and keep my grumblings to myself and actually post something useful. ~

If you hit modify it should install it. I think in this case modify means the same as install. Thats what I did at least. To check it, why don't you try to install 1.5, and if it lets you that means it recongnizes you already have 1.3.

:jumping: :thrasher: :elephant: It works!!!!! Though not quite as I had originally intended. I tried hitting the modify button (almost literally) and then installing 1.5, but that didn't work. I then scroured the web for more possibilities and cames across a fairly old post in the Apothecary (which is where I should have posted this - ). It basically suggested changing the names of the folders so that one had the one I wanted to install a patch into should have the original file name and default directory, and the others should have new names. Whether this was a key factor I don't know because when I came to install it again I, after a few more failed attempts, I tried clicking the reinstall button...Eureka!!! The patch actually worked and installed into the default directory. Problem is, the 1.2 patch was installed in the other copy. Nevermind; it still worked, as did 1.5, which is excellent. I can now play RTR platinum. Thanks everyone for your support.:2thumbsup: The response I've recieved has confirmed that this forum actually rocks, and all the people who post on it are a bunch of genuine legends.

Cheers ~

Just a quick edit for anyone having the same problem (though I doubt anyone is as stupid as me). Its not the "reinstall" button, its the "repair" button.

Heh Thief, I'm delighted you got it fixed. You seem like a jewel on the rough road.. And, I think patches automatically install in C:/Program Files/Activision/Rome Total War/ .

And, patch 1.2 was removed because it isn't needed to get 1.5 working. It is just 'extra will-be-replaced-in-1.3' data.

Yeah, I suspected that was the case. Cheers.

I'd recommend biting the bullet and reinstalling the game. Once that's done, install patch 1.2 (Google it, it doesn't show up on the CA site anymore), and then 1.3 and 1.5.
I'd also originally believed that CA had taken the patches down from their revamped website. However, they're contained in the Suport---Rome section, here's the direct link if you need to bookmark the link:

As you say though, the patches should appear after a GOOGLE search. I tend to use Download.com (http://www.download.com/) for such patches, utilities, tools etc: all-in-all, a handy resource site, tons of free bits and pieces

Yeah, download.com seems pretty good. Plenty of content and quite safe from the looks of things. I find that TWCenter is good as well. That tends to have all of the most useful tools and utilities.
