View Full Version : Shaving

For the first time in a long while, i went out clean shaven with my friends last night, after having a tash and beard for around two maybe three years.
Ive always kept it trimmed down with an Electric shaver, but ive always found that it really pulverizes your skin, so i decided to go for a nice wet razor shave, and boy did i benefit from those results. Not only did the girls in my group love it, i managed to get it on so to speak, with a lovely young french girl. Oh la la!
So anyway, what do the fellow chaps at the .org go for? I like a beard, i think it makes me look a lot older, but those ladies really go for the smooth, clean cut look.
What do we think...to beard or not to beard?
Shaving is a special occasion around here. Maybe once every few weeks or months. Maybe. Even then, it's only a trim and the chin area stays.

I use razors and shave 2 or 3 times per week. I suppose I could try growing a beard but I expect it would look like ****.

Haven't shaved in a while, simply because I can't be ****. Hopefully if I leave it long enough it will look half decent. For the time being it's just a fuzzy mess.

I guess I had better start shaving relatively soon, as I have quite a bit of what is called bumfluff (has nothing to do with hair down there). I just heard that once you start shaving, the hair grows thicker so you have to shave more often....I'm just lazy. It's a good job that I have fair hair, if not I really would need to shave.

I have a beard like of that Wolverine guy of the X-Men. I did not go that far to shape it with some hair gel but I think I'll try that some time.

Razor with a basin of water. Always wet my face first. Always shave every 2-3 days.

I voted Gah! I have grown a great big before but that was because no time to shave for about three months, and I kept it for an extra 2. I use a tap (for water) and a straightblade. It hurt a lot to learn when I was young, but other stuff hurts more and as soon as I became good, nothing was cleaner.

I've had a beard now for about 24 years but I use a razor and plain old water to clean up around the edges. A sissors is the weapon of choice to keep the beard under control. I do the edging every 3-5 days and beard pruning every 3-4 weeks.

Stopped when I ran out of blades, as is usually the case for a few weeks or so
here and there. Will probably sort it out soon enough, especially as someone
likes to constantly point out how it supposedly happens to grow ginger. [Lies.]

Seeing as I'm in the Army national guard I have to shave but only two days a month two weeks a year. When I get back to school and am in ROTC again I'll have to be clean shaven which I prefer to do with a razor. Real men use razors and water.
ROTC huh... My shaving's for OTC... fancy that.

Because if you don't spend time on it through intervals, it looks like a jungle of pubic hair.

Two to three times a week with a razor in the shower to really soften up my cast-iron bristles. I used to shave less when I could but I must admit to a vain abhorrence of the rapidly increasing amount of grey hair! Damn ageing! I don't mind the grey in my hair but a grey beard is too much.

My beard must be older than most furumites - it was started in 1969, and has been with me continuously ever since! :dizzy2:
I use the same maintainance method as Gregoshi, except for the use of some shaving get to go along with the water...sensitive skin with a tough beard needs all the help it can get.

I like my beard, thank you. ~;p But there are some patchy spots, so I usually just shave them with a razor and cold water. I would use a straight razor, too (since none of the spots are on my neck) but I don't know where to find them.
So anyway, what do the fellow chaps at the .org go for? I like a beard, i think it makes me look a lot older, but those ladies really go for the smooth, clean cut look.
Girls have the worst tastes. Besides, despite what any of them might think, I need my beard. Not that it makes me look much older, but it makes me look more like... well... me. I don't look right without a moustache and beard anymore.

I've almost always used a razor, I tried an electric for a couple of months but I found it just wouldn't take the hair off, I have a very thick beard. If I leave it more than two days it becomes a pain to scrape it off again.
Screw that! Go beard. I haven't shaved since I got permission to grow a beard while in the US Navy. That was 27 years ago. I keep it trimmed; but I don't even shave my throat. Now it's all grey and it scares little kids and small animals. :laugh4:
If the ladies say they prefer the look and feel of smooth cheeks, simply reply that you prefer the look and feel of shaved pudenda and offer to share a razor. See what happens. Double standard? Nah.
damn now I pressed the wrong button! It's telectric I am lazy. I haven't shaved me yet this week it's realy getting time.

I was cursed with my father's thick beard, so shaving is a must. If I grew it out, it would be an impenetrable afro on my face.
Because it's so wiry and thick, I've experimented with every method of shaving known to man. Best results come from shaving in the shower by touch. What I've found is that it's all about how wet you can get and keep your face while you're doing the deed.
Obviously, the only drawback is I can't see what I'm doing. So I avoid the final trims by the sideburns and such until I'm out of the shower. But trust me, if you've got a problem beard, this is the way to do it.
[edit]
Lovely come-back about asking the ladies to shave in turn, BTW. But then, a lot of women would take you up on that one ...

I've had a beard for years. I usually just use an electric to take off the moustache and trim down the thinner areas, but have recently decided to not bother trying to look like a nancy-boy in any respect, and am currently rocking the moustache.

On the VERY rare occasion I shave, I use an electric. I am trying to avoid this. I'm received comments that if I grew out my beard and hair, I would look like a Viking. A huge plus since I'm taking a class on Viking Sagas in the fall.

I've been lucky in that I got involved with ladies who like beards. Good thing, because I'm not shaving it off. I'll go celibate and live in a cave first. It's all about the priorities. I've also been lucky in that many of the ladies would also have gladly taken me up on the offer and some in fact did, without requiring me to reciprocate. That was long ago though. Interesting times, the 70's and 80's. Then I got married and ruined my sex life completely. Now I'm old and grey and living on the flashbacks. Heh.

I vary from the long-haired-beardy to the crew-cut and clean shaven looks. Keeps my friends on their toes, and keeps the stereotypes at bay :laugh4:
When I do shave it's wet electric (rechargeable, not mains!) and to keep it clean shaven I should do it 2ce daily, as I have a serious 5pm shadow. It always comes down to 'does it itch more with a beard or with razor burn?' IMHO I look 10 years younger when I'm in crew-cut and clean face mode, and that's the way I'll stay, at least til the winter when I go all grizzly and hibernate with MTW.

I'd quite like to grow a beard, but I inherited my father's lack of stubble, and then some-I hoped the growth would pick up, but I'm reconciled to the fact that I am never going to have any facial hair. As what growth there is is so thin, I use an electric shaver. A razor doesn't yield any noticeable improvement.

I am too young to shave all the time I just get rid of the peach fuzz above my lip. Although for swimming we had to shave pretty much every hair on our bodies and that wasnt very fun.

After a shower I use shaving oil, topped off with shaving gel (foamed) and then use a Mach 3 sans handle (just the blade section as I find I have better control and hence generate a smoother result).
Real men don't need a beard in order to look like a man. ~;)
Nonsense. Men grow hair out of their faces and that's all there is to it.
I have really dark facial hair and blond hair on my head. So I either look like a twat who dyes hi shair or look baby-faced and have to bring along a driving licence to buy a drink. Fun times.

If you say so.
However, the few friends I have who do cultivate face fungus spend far more time preening themselves than I do. I shave, simple. I don't even use a mirror, but my beardy mates wear their mirrors out with their constant trimming, plucking, cutting, combing, adjusting, etc. etc. Being a beardy (unless you go for the unwashed homeless look) is usually for the vain, and all that effort just to look like some 70s gay porn star. :laugh4:

I shave wet every day unless I don't plan to leave the house. Oh, and GoreBag, I use a face balsam after it.
O man, Divine Wind you and your stories. I am too young to shave regularly yet. Although I did experiment once with shaving my legs, wouldn't recommend that.

Every 2 or 3 days with a wet razor.
I did once grow an enormous beard before I got married - started it 6 months before my stag do, and never trimmed it once. Just an enormous piece of fuzz on my face :D My stag do was meant to be 70s themed, but my mates set me up and all turned up dressed as vicars - CND badges, tambourines, the works, was pretty damn funny. When I shaved it off I actually used hair clippers to make it more managable, then went through 2 razors shaving it off.
Was fun whilst I had it - would periodically threaten Mrs Suribachi-to-be to keep it for the wedding day.
Back in my student days I had an enormous pair of side-burns "McCrirricks" as they were known ~:) Wifey doesn't like me in 'burns, so I don't even have a little set now. I really miss my sideys ~:(

I like old-fashioned ones (with a handle, and a long blade), not the pre-packaged fancy teeny little things they sell you at x-mart (i.e., not the ones with disposable blades).
I've always wanted one, but it was always either
a) I couldn't afford a nice one
OR
b) when I could afford one, I couldn't easily find one, and consent to spend a good chunk of money just to feed my vanity...
So, in the meantime, I use the ones with disposable blades too...:shame:

Hey, if you trim your beard then you may as well take the logical step of shaving it all off. You say that it is natural, but if you cut and trim it then you are admitting that you want to control it. So, why not shave it off and have done with it? :laugh4:

Because, for the most part, styling your beard is hilariously hypocritical, like you said, but only if it's properly tongue-in-cheek. For example, I haven't shaven my face for a more than considerable amount of time, and can now curl up the ends of my moustache for a cheap laugh whenever I please.
