View Full Version : Nobody will join my games... am I missing something?

Whenever I host an online game, no one will ever join. It is not the ping issue, I have an adsl modem and have good pings with everyone else.

I can't help but feel I am not chosing the right map, or I am choosing friendly where I should be choosing competitive, or I am choosing a low amount of koku.

What I want to know is what most people prefer... Are there certain maps I should avoid or a few I should only use? What is the "right" amount of koku in your opinion?

Try Totomi 5000 koku and friendly...they should join if you have the New patch as the Mongol said up there...
To see if you have the patch installed right...check at index of the game on the top left corner for V.1.12
Good luck....

you have to work to get ppl in your game market your game. ask everyone to join if you sit there all quit it will take longer. dont repeat over and over ppl hate seing that but just write out somthing give it a few then write somthing agian i know sometime i will sit in there waiting for 5-10 mins till somone joins so try that and see what happens.

normaly i just do it like this
"need 2 people in shadelords game" and i will do that a few times over the next few min's then if no one joins then it goes to somthing a lil more like this "what you all are scared of me come on i will be gental http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif"

there hope this helps http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I usually host low koku games (1500-2000) and don't have any probs getting players. sometimes, however, there are some slow nights and no matter how long one waits, there just won't be any hosting that night.

Geisha,

You've just run into one of the issues I have with EAPLAY.

The Competitive/Friendly crap!

Your a newbie and of course you just want to play for fun and learn a little, so you set your game to Friendly. Well, as you've just witnessed there ain't too many Friendlies around.

Change your game to Competitive and watch, someone will quickly jump in to get an ego message by beating up on the newbie.

I once had a Friendly game set up for over a half hour and NOBODY joined. Incredible!

It is perfectly acceptable to host friendlies,

If you are hosting 1 versus 1 and not getting any takers, try switching it to 2 versus 2,

advertise which season you have chosen,

if you recognise someone you have played before ask them to join,

try saying something 'cheeky' such as
>>> "anyone want to show a girl a good time?", etc...
8)

the only don't >>> don't endlessly repeat "join my game"...it does annoy ppl

and,...

many of the clans will gladly play friendlies with newbies,
the Chains, Shades, Fears, NoFears, Doragons etc. (sorry to any i missed)

Clan players can be identified by a commonality in their names, for example the Chain clan all have "Link" somewhere in their first name...

for a listing of the shogun forums where you can visit the individual clans go here > http://www.geocities.com/shadesofshogun/f/forums.html

Experienced players tend not to "jump on a newbie" in competitive mode because they will lose points even if they win. So you should get some challengers with whom you can play a challenging but not hopeless game.

If your latency is high or you are choosing castle or bridge maps you are bound to have difficulties getting a game.

You stole my thunder there Sly http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Try not to play too many Castle or bridge games, they do you no good in the long run, and people tend to shy away from them. Try to keep the koku below 10K for each player too (5K is my norm).

I have just the opposite problem myself...I can get great response when I host a friendly, but have to pretty much beg for people in comp games. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Ship if you would quit winning comp games they would join you http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif and since nobody knows me they join no problem they take it as a easy win.

I actually have the opposite problem. I prefer Friendly games of about 5000 koku and can't find enough of them to join.

So keep trying Geisha if I'm on-line I'll join you.

Geisha,

Are you sure people are seeing your game. Many players cannot host due to security restrictions on their internet connection even though they can join games. When hosting it looks ok from your end, and you can't tell that your game isn't showing. Ask in the online foyer if anyone sees your game.

Are you using Aol and have not downloaded the patch yet.. people will try to get on your game and will get a Network mismatch error mgs and cant get in.. You on the otherhand wont see anything and it will look like your are just not getting any takers.
