Which pet do you prefer? Remember to take all factors into account:
1. cuteness
2. how social they are
3. how intelligent they are
4. what tricks you can teach them
5. what sounds cutest - miao or woof?
6. how good at hunting they are
7. in times of misery/war, which taste better and is most nutritious?
8. in times of boredom, what is more fun to watch - staged fights between cats or dogs?

A pigfight wins, it's just so amusing.

What can I say, pigs own 'em both. :2thumbsup:

Only 3 voters so far... Why do I get the feeling the frontroom community at large isn't taking this topic entirely seriously?

I'm bi -- I have both kinds of animals. No fish, snakes or hamsters, thank goodness, but cats and dogs live together in Casa Lemur.

I'm so bi I even have a Mac and a PC. (And back when the PC was dual-boot to Fedora Linux, I was Tri.)

I know a certain taxi driver who goes out to feed dozens of cats, dogs and birds at various places in the city every night, feeding each species with different kind of food. :chef:

I voted "none of them'.

I prefer other animals...

I had a frog once... :nice:

And horses are still the most sublime creature on Earth (next to good people)...

Stinking, eating, crapping, slobbering, always needing something. None of them!

Come here you cuddly little thing, let me rub your tummy, yes your daddy’s good little baby… hey stop looking at me, get out of here!

We have one cat and two Jack Russell terriers at home. That said:

1. cuteness
No contest. Cats all the way.

2. how social they are
Our cat is just social enough, the dogs are way too social. Also, socialness is overrated anyway.

3. how intelligent they are
Again, no contest. I don't know how their tiny dog brains manage to keep them alive at all.

4. what tricks you can teach them
Cats are above tricks. Besides, our dogs don't know any.

5. what sounds cutest - miao or woof?
Not only does a cat sound cutest - the constant loud yapping whenever the dogs imagine a leaf has fallen the wrong way out in the garden is prone to induce cardiac arrest.

6. how good at hunting they are
Our dogs favourite hunting method consists of running towards the target at full speed while making as much noise as possible. The cat seems to kill on a regular basis, even taking on big rabbits.

7. in times of misery/war, which taste better and is most nutritious?
I imagine cats might taste a bit like rabbit, but I guess it all comes down to how big a dog you have. Mastiffs might provide more nutrition than Jack Russels.

8. in times of boredom, what is more fun to watch - staged fights between cats or dogs?
Our dogs fight daily, but it's only a game. I imagine cat fights would be a whole lot more exciting.

Also, the cat digs himself a little hole to go potty, and covers it up again afterwards. The dog came in one day smelling of the poo in which he had been rolling.

dogs. cats have hairballs.

Cats for teh win !
I have two cats, and I've had cats for 19 years or so (my parents still have an 18 year old one).

The Spartan: not all of them. out of the 5 cats I've had throughout my life, only one has had hairballs, ever. And that's because it's a medium long hair. The short hair ones usually don't have that problem.

Cool that my slight favorite "cats" are beating the crap out of "dogs", but I voted neutrally because I haven't had much contact with either in a long time so I'm not sure. But the memories brought back here is clearly in favor of cats!

Dogs are behind? They are man's best friend and I have yet to encounter a "seeing eye" cat. Dogs rule and cats drool.

ain't they both cute?

Dogs, only because they have a practical usage. I grew up with dogs, and they made my life easier by herding sheep. It would be very hard to herd sheep by myself, and cats wouldn't even get up from their napping-place to help me.

Pffft, everybody knows cats don't drool... That's so beneath them... drooling and slobbering are typical canine attitudes. Doggies are cool too, though. I'd like to get one if I ever end up living in a house.

Well, I've had experiences with both sides.

For dogs, my friend insists that I am the only person in the world that his little yappy dog hates. Also, one time during a sleepover party I was woken up to the sweet sound, smell, and feel of another friend's dog puking all over me.

However, my cousin owns a cat so evil it is possibly a form of Satan himself.

Since I've had bad experiences with both species, I vote GAH, even though "none of them" is the choice that falls into my line of view. :dizzy2:

BOTH!

Cats are good for when you just want to sit at the computer and play a game with loud music, and dogs are good for when you want to go outside and do something.

On the hunting bit I'd have to say that a dog can be just as good as a cat, since our Chesapeake Bay Retriever has nailed a full-grown healthy wild turkey on her own and various other smaller prey, and our cats get other critters very regularly.

Cats and dogs have almost equal intellegence, quite contrary to popular opinion. You would be amazed at how intellegent a dog actually is, if you spend a lot of time with one.

I voted both, because they both have their places. However, my favorite kind of dog is definitely my dog right now: she is a small black mutt (mostly lab), and she is probably one of the most intellegent non-human creatures ever born. She is also quieter than a cat; she communicates in many other ways besides barking, mainly with body language that has an amazing level of sophistication. You can actually talk to her in complete sentences- and not parroted sentences, either, like "wanna go for a walk?" I mean sentences like "No, you can't have any of my food. Go eat your own." Try doing that with a cat!

My favorite kind of cat, on the other hand, is not one that I have yet met; but I have heard about the ideal cat: his name was Nancy, and he was a crazy alley cat who lived with my dad in Chicago for several years. He stank from living in garbage, he had a great big distended belly, he had one blind eye, two missing teeth, and his head was covered in scars from whe he would rape the local female cats, who would try to defend themselves by scratching up his head. He woundn't slink into a room; he walked into a room, and he was one tough ****er. He was also able to communicate on a level like that of my dog. Now that's a cat. :2thumbsup:

Cats are masters.

I voted dogs, although as an animal, I have more respect for cats.
