I'm getting my IB examination results at 6/07/06 at 1700 GMT online. Which means over at my place it would be 12 midnight, yikes! Damn nervous, the results determined whether I will receive my diploma or else two years of education will go down the drain. :help:
But at least its not released at 6/06/06. :laugh4:

Two years?
Of course, I crammed four years of university study into two by taking 18+ credits per semester.
Now I am cramming two years of Masters work into 18 months with another 18 credits per semester. (MBA, International Business. Good Stuff LLB)

Best of luck my friend.
I myself am waiting on my MYP certificate; I know it's not as big but I still want to know how much time I wasted.

~ Don't you feel like burn out or stressed? The IB years were extremely stressful for my grade, espeically when we want to relax and party, the teachers would be saying: "After the finals, you can party all you want to." They even said that after IB, university would be a breeze. But now... hearing from you.... :sweatdrop:

And I work full time. And sometimes I substitute teach jr. high school for a part-time job on top of it. And I have a Family.
Sometimes I want to end it all. It gets pretty tough. I usually get about four hours of sleep each night, up to six if I am lucky. At least once a week, I do a re-charge and sleep for 12 hours to catch up.
The bottom line:
We get one life that we can remember when we are old. Just one. I was given nothing. If we have talent, then we owe it to God and everyone else who does not have talent to use our ability to the maximum of its potential. To waste a blessing is a sin.
I will slave now, so that I may live a life of luxury and opulence later. My children will go to the best schools. I will travel the world when I see fit, with multiple homes in multiple countries. I will serve many through my work, and spread my wealth to as many as I can out of generosity rather than compulsion.
And if I die before I reach my dreams, I can still look on the face of the Lord and say to him, "Father, I have done my best with what you have given me. I have served many and sought to enjoy the life you have given me. You gave me the oceans to swim, the waves to ride, the mountains to explore, and the world to travel. I gave much back and left this world better than when I arrived".
All I can hope to hear is: "Well Done. Good and faithful servant."

Wow. Thumbs up, DA. That is a most respectable attitude to life.
Of course, if God turns out to be a juvenile delinquent, things might swing the other way...

RP, that's too down to earth, exposing the harsh realities of life for Disney.
Disney is just good guys go against bad guys, there's one liar who starts off as a good guy, then good guys win without that much effort.

Got my results. In short, I have 30 points out of 45 points. Therefore, diploma awarded! But still, I can't believe I didn't do so well in Geography, that was one of my strongest subject. :furious3: Furthermore, I wanted 35 points. But well, now that I have my diploma, I can say YAH!:2thumbsup:

Apparently, the IB is becoming more popular in this country as people seek an alternative to the now watered-down and ever more discredited A Level. Why they had to mess with something that was fine as it was is a crime against education.

How is IB better for higher ed? Surely if you know more about, say, chemistry, from the A-Level course, you'll find it easier and hence better when studying it in university?

I assume that universities are coming to see that the IB distinguishes the different levels of ability of the students better than A Level. The latter have become a joke in many disciplines with huge numbers of students gaining multiple grade A's, to the point where HE institutions cannot really judge the abilities of the students that they are trying to assess for entrance.

Actually, I won't say IB is easier than A-Levels. Most of the course and coursework in IB is hugely research-based project. Basically, just think of IB as a pre-uni course thing. A-levels is more on rote-learning and memorizing and that is why if you study hard for A-levels, its kinda easy to get a pass. But for IB, the exams are a nightmare because 1) There a huge amount of information and 2) the questions in the exams are completely different in the fact that you can't just spill everything from memory but have to really really understand the concept cause the questions are more like open-ended questions with many many approach.
Also, you have to do an Extended Essay which is a nice way for saying a mini-thesis. You do your own research on your own topic for 1 and a half year and you have to meet all this datelines with your supervisor and stuff like that. This project is extremely research intensive and you have to do it ALONE. Supervisor can advise on some stuff, but that's all. You are on your own. (4000 words max for this essay.)
For you first language subject, you have to do TWO essays in researching and anaylazing two or three books you have studied in your first subject. Also, have to do this ALONE. No asking for help from your teacher. (1500 words for both essays I think)
For Theory of Knowledge (kinda like a compulsory philosophy for IB) you have to do a Oral Presentation in front of your class on one topic regard to ToK. Have to do this alone (but can be done with a partner). But given ToK more tricky nature, you can ask a little bit more help from the teacher. And yes, you have to write another ESSAY chosen from a list of 10 pre-scribed titles. Can get some help from teacher about what you want to write about but other than that, have to write the whole thing yourself ( 1500 words max)
And for all this essays, anything over the wordcount, there goes some of your marks. Seriously, this guys are strict, strict, strict. They'll check for EVERYTHING. So don't even think of copying your friend's paper. That'll just mean you and your friend won't get your diploma.
Also, we have to 150 hours of CAS or extracurriulmar (spelling?) stuff. But this is compulsory and part of the IB program or else we don't get our diploma if we don't have 150 hours and that is 50 hours for Creativity, 50 hours for Action, 50 hours for Service.
So IB is really really stressful. BUT, if you do well, most unis will accept you cause it shows that you are well-grounded in research-based projects and that you can think outside the box and not from rote-learning and that you have a life too, beside study and homework.
To get in most okay unis, you need 28-30 points.
To get into slightly better unis (espeically in UK) 32 and above.
To get into Mega good uni (like Harvard) 35 and above. But better if 40 and above.
For me, I'm going to take the SATs to enter this uni. They won't even look at my diploma so its kinda worthless.
Sorry for the long post.

RP: I wish I'd get that in history, recently only got an A for an exam paper a little harder than GCSE :sweatdrop:
Yeah, my worst result.
LLB: You might as well do another A-level instead of learning how the IB works, if it's that complex ~;p

IB is something like A-Levels.
