View Full Version : Do You Look Like Your Avatar?

The Spartan (Returns)

(note: i dont know if there was a thread about this already, so mods close it immediately if it was)
Or do you pick an avatar that describes your org name?
i clearly do not look like my url avatar. who owns a xystas, hoplon, cape, and corinthian helmet? (if you do please send it to me) here's my avatar:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/images/avatars/rtw/Greek_gen/Greek_general_148.gif
sad to say i dont look like it. i choose it to describe my org name.
imagine a kinda dark tan skin, hair brushed back (no bangs) (no facial hair) that would be me. and what about you????

I like mine. It is a reasonable facsimily of what I look like...which some may argue isn't necessarily a good thing.

I do in the fact that I have brown hair and the same head shape, but I'll go the way of the Spartan and just describe myself: Brown curly hair, dark skin, one of those beards that is only around the chin and mouth (what is that in english?) dark brown eyes, deep set eyes that always look like I am sleep-deprived, and a scar under my nose that I got from a run in with a bunch of curious goats.

Reverend Joe

Yes, it does... it's kinda eerie, really, because I mostly chose this avatar to fit my love of MTW. I went with the one I did on a gut instinct, something that said, "that's me." Little did I know it really was me! :uhoh:

Edit: actually, the hairdo doesn't quite fit (although it is the right length, approxamately), and the beard is growing on the cheeks, whereas mine is still coming in, but other than that, that's me.

I picked the avatar that looked most like me. No coincidence there.

Almost the same pose (for comparison's sake):

I picked the most-resembling one that I could find. I also believe that, had I been born in the Middle Ages, I would have been one of those tight-assed, severe and grim-faced erm.... scholars.

Not at all, I chose my avatar, because nobody had it, back in the old school days, you had to have either 100 or 500 posts before you could pick your own avatar and give yourself a title. As soon as I could, to distinguish myself from other members I picked an avatar that nobody else had and to this day I still haven't seen another member with my avatar.

It's a very close resemblance ... and I chose it for that, pretty much.

There are some minor differences, as in, less pronounced cheek-bones.

Yes, and as Eclectic said; you find my picture in the family photos thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=592149&postcount=86).
All though nowadays I have short hair and no beard. Thinking of it I don't have a beard in the family photo thread either... I used to have a full beard with my long hair. And before anyone asks why a Navy man had long hair... It was an experiment after I was released from the Navy. A sort of 25th year crisis.

AntiochusIII

No. First, I'm young, not like this guy to the left of this post. Second, I'm Southeast Asian, which means the Islamic warlord that represents me here would have those who know me in real life go down laughing their heads off. Third, I don't have a beard. Fourth, I don't remember going to any kinds of Poitiers- or Hattin-reenactment, so I never wore the armor this guy wears.

I just chose it out of random after I got bored with the old Greek guy. I imagine it must've given people an impression that is very different from the content of my posts. Though indeed I find the dark silvery tone quite oppressively appealing. I used to try out the cool custom avatars for a while but since 90-95% of people have the same default Medieval Knight avatar (because nobody actually use the new function ~:( ) I got tired and confused of it all and revert back to the smaller avatars. For that system to truly work I guess it has to be combined into one avatar per member, though two parallel systems to use.

Hmm, I do a bit, though my beard is more goatee than full face. I chose the avatar when I changed my user-name, and took this one because it had the right sort of quizzical frown - and it looked a bit like me.

I liked my old Haruchai avatar a lot, with the Mongol banner in the background. Didn't look anything like me. It seems like most people liked my old user name too, as they keep referring to it!

I guess if I wrap a red scarf around my head/face (or wear a red samurai armor in the case of my custom avatar) I would somehow look like my avatar ... but I rarely do that as people tend to give me funny looks then (sometimes they do so anyway ... but perhaps I am just imagining that)

Hey E, it's more fun when you open your favorite image editing program and scale a picture to the same size and proportion as your avatar. Takes all of thirty seconds, and it makes the comparison more visceral.

I have the URL avatars displayed and I don't see the knights. Those people who don't have a URL avatar show as their normal (.org) avatars, although they are enlarged to double size.

It is a bug - sometimes when an admin posts in a thread and edits his post, he suddenly is listed as the thread starter.
Somewhat annoying (believe me for some Backroom threads I'd rather not be listed as the thread starter) but we haven't found a solution yet...

Thanks for pointing that out - I made some changes.
Is it working better now?

Explaination:
The first pic is the original unaltered photo of myself (Mrs Clegane was so kind to lend me a scarf and to take the picture - of course she has some doubts regarding my mental stability now).
The subsequent pics represent different steps of modifying the original photo (the last one is obviously my R:TW avatar)

Pfffft, I don't buy that. And people don't say that crap, anyway - if anything, they say the opposite. Why ? Because famous people tend to be beautiful people, and there's lots of famous cross-bred (?) fashion models and actresses and such. So, no.

And, as gay that might sound, I don't believe you're just plain ugly. You might, though, have crappy low self-esteem like me :2thumbsup:
