Don't worry, there are still plenty of burnt out, drugged up hippies around to worship. Now that meth is popular, the next generation of "artists" should even be better!!! Look at the glass half full my friend, not half empty.

Poor old Syd, a depressing footnote to one of the greatest musical groups ever to grace a stage. Memories of Syd take me back to my college days when my friends and I would wind down an evening of drunken rowdiness by relaxing in a dimly lit room while cranking Floyd tunes into the wee hours of the morning. Tunes like Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive never failed to stimulate a buzzed imagination.

He reverted to his real name, Roger Barrett, and spent much of the rest of his life living quietly in his hometown of Cambridge, England. Moving into his mother’s suburban house, he passed the time painting and tending the garden. His former bandmates made sure Barrett continued to receive royalties from his work with Pink Floyd.

Quite a generous gesture from the likes of rock musicians, a breed notorious for its delicate egos, petty squabbles and disingenuine thoughtfulness.

Why the hostility? Drugs have been the greatest influence on music and I dare sya have made it better than it would be if it was created sober. No disrespect to the man, my point is that its too bad he died and impart because of his drug use. But at the same time his drug use was beneficial to the music industry and the creation of great music. The next generation of music should be even better because of more powerful drugs. So the glass is half fool, the batton has been passed, etc. :2thumbsup:

While I didn't like his stuff as much as the later Floyd, the sheer inspiration factor created some true classics.

I can't really say he will be missed (since he's been out of the public since 1975), but this is truly a loss for music.

Saying that music will improve due to meth is, to be quite frank, naive. (NOT you, Dave, your statement.) Meth is a murderous drug; it rots minds without doing any good for them. The reason acid did so much good is that it makes- forces- peopel to think on, quite literally, higher levels, by linking every part of their brain. Unfortunately, this does indeed ruin minds; but regardless, this has nothing to do with Syd, who died of old age and nothing more. Besides, that was a horrible thing to say about Syd. He was a wonderful man with a wonderful mind, and even after he was cracked and broken and he could no longer do any music, he continued to do remarkably beautiful paintings.
